Tim, I use Hanneken Ins., they represent many companies as Trapper 7 was saying. I am currently with Western National, I get the bare bones minimum, pay for a year at a time, just checked last years premium, $279 for the year. I wonder if Ralph Hanneken, our district 4 director is part of the Hanneken insurance family. Western National is a good company rate wise and on claims. I would guess the Hannekens are all related somewhere down the line. I know Ralph, he's a good man.

I believe it's true that it's cheaper to total it, than repair it. The insurance companies , then own it, and sell it to a recycle center. Often an insurance company will total a vehicle if it's damage is reasonably close to the value of it because once a body shop starts repairing it, they could find other damage. Most insurance companies don't want the salvage and will offer it back to the insured for about 1/3 wholesale value. I had that happen many times over the years I was in the business.

True , as I have also bought back a totaled truck, rebuilt it, and the state inspected it. Once that was done I got a different title.

Agents sell insurance it is the underwriter who pays the tab. As far as repair vs replace it is not a big secret. The indemnification clause states the policy owes to repair or replace which ever is cheaper.

My last increase on my farm truck, I was told it was due to the age of the vehicle made it more expensive to get parts to repair, it is a 2011. No claims in 10 years.
I told them we were pulling all of our policies, farm/home/3 vehicles/2 boats/skid steer/tractor/UTV/life, and this from a place where my wife was an agent for 7 years. They called us in for a review and we ended up saving a couple $100 every 6 months.
It is worth meeting with your agent every so often.
