Thank you, Paul Harvey! (Seldom) I hope your Calicos are biting over there across the pond! So much fun, John! Wow, thanks Trappingthomas! I'll try to do that. Thank you, Kristen! That sounds fantastic, Rick. The folks who own our walleye camp in Canada have a winter home on a smaller crappie lake up there. They talk about dinner plate sized crappies. I dream of them... Nice of you to share with some friends! That makes the whole thing better!

Music to my ears! Calicos!! The name Calico Bass with a picture of the fish (black & white) was on the back of the MI DNR map book during the years prior to 1968. During the late 60’s a nuc plant was being built just outside our town of Midland MI and with the plant came “travelers”/“outsiders” skilled tradesmen and laborers from all over the country and they brought with them the “new” name “Crappie” which were very common in our local lakes. The once forever name Calico Bass was changed to Crappie and remains today! Now you know the rest of the story! LOL I didn't know this backstory. Growing up it's just what my dad and family called them. Always learning!

No kidding, Sharon. You gotta love panfish! Vinke, you hit that one right one the head. Our first time out every spring usually starts a repair list! Lufkin! I do have a recipe for cedar planked panfish with a sour cream based sauce. I might just have to dig that one up for you!

Most of the crappies we are catching in Canada are very nice sized 80 to 85% are 13.5" plus, out of hundreds......the smallest we've caught was 9.75",16.65" was the largest, this year 15 5" were the largest.
