Was running the skid steer today spreading gravel at the farm. Saw something move beside my right eye. Thought the windshield wiper line had broke loose and was hanging down. Nope........

It was this guy hanging from the ceiling. About 3 in from my ear.

I love black rats, but I get the shock of one that close and in a tight spot!
Looks like a biggun.
I’ve got a pair of whoppers living in my firewood shed. Wife stepped on one barefoot in the yard a week or so ago lol. I heard about “my dam snakes” fer a couple days.

Surprise!
I step on one barefoot in the back yard once when I was a kid. I was headed to get clothes off the line and I'm betting I jumped 4 ft strsight up but landed nearly 15 ft away. Just cause they are a goof snake doesn't mean they can scare the crap right out of ya.

I would have exited that skid steer in the blink of an eye, never to return.

I really feel for you. There isn't a skid steer built that's easy to get out of in a heart beat.

Lucky you didnt hurt yourself trying to escape lol. I was baling a mans hay on a hilly spot one time and a bale rolled in the woods. I got out of tractor to roll it out where he could retrieve it with his spear. In the process one of those fell out of a tree on my shoulder. As soon as i felt that cold skin hit my neck i let out a wierd girlish squeal and slung him about 20 feet away.

If you fellers had to factor in the occasional rattler, cottonmouth, and copperhead that gets into your yard and around your equipment ya'll would have some very exciting posts to make....lol

Years ago we had an old chevy truck that we only used for work. It was an older truck but still ran good and didnt look bad to see it. It sat a lot and was only used occasonally. It needed some maintenance work oil change/ tune up etc. so I took it to a local garage.

That day I was out in the field working an hour or more away from home and I got a phone call from the mechanic. He was an older man and he started the conversation by reading me the riot act on the phone and using some choice words. I was a bit taken back but listened to him.

Obviously there had been a large mature black rat snake up in that trucks hood interior where there was some insulation. It decided to emerge and hang down as they commonly do after the hood had been open during the repair work.

Those rat snakes love to crawl into those types of tight spots for the radiant heat source they provide and the mice that nest there.

The mechanic was leaning over inside the motor housing changing plugs and felt this thing touching his back and shoulder area. He didnt seem to think much of it at first. I guess he thought it was some insulation that had fallen down. Well it turned out to be that snake and he freaked out.

Too funny to us but he had a great fear for snakes which made the experience even more startling for him. He mentions that experience every now and then to me when I see him.

I love black rat snakes too. I'm actually happy to know he's living close by and keeping mice out of my equipment.

This one threw me off when I stepped on him. He was a bit agitated, but we talked it over and parted ways peacefully. Something that I'm not used to at home. [Linked Image]

3 inches from your ear. If it were me, I be changing my underwear!
