What’s the best size cage trap for mink? Never messed with trapping mink using a cage trap. I am limited next fall to cages given the area and circumstances. Any particular brand? Thanks in advance!

8 X 8 X 24 inch , 1/2 or 1 inch wire will work well.
The location and MOST IMPORTANTLY the bait used is the key to catching mink.
I learned this from Dave Vinke of Washington State, who is a member on this forum.

So what’s the secret sauce if you don’t mind sharing?

In cold weather, leave out some feed for the mink.A big chunk that he cannot remove.
Once he starts visiting it to eat, remove it and place a piece of it in the cage that is already sitting nearby
You will have him in a few hours.
If you are doing a nuisance removal in town, and are worried about other animals use an exclusion set up that only allows acess to a mink size animal to both the pre bait and cage.

There is no comparing adc to fur trapping for mink.

Smaller double doors on trail set make it easier to ensure they step on the pan.
Under a bridge I would always use a 10 x 12 coon size.
Reinforced colony traps are great for bottom edge, channel and another sets.
Any size that you can pack in, at the right location, with the right presentation.

Climate (rain vs clear and cold)

That’s why everybody should have their own secret sauce.

By now hiding your trap you are double your odds.
My go to bait was duck carcass. It doesn’t decompose very quickly, has a slight odor that will remain with it and is a visual attractant.
Top is covered to protect from rain and freezing /bird of pray visualization

Mink ranchers to catch escapees use little cage traps with two doors set on vertical spots like walls or edges much like blind trapping wild ones. Works real well.
