Hoss, you've been through a rodeo of your own lately, and probably taking it a bit easy . I thought you'd like some nice shots of the action times to look forward to.

Rodeo has been ramping up now and will be full bore run this summer. I plan to attend some . I have been notified of the need to help gear up, warm up and cool down for some events this summer. I responded that I'd love to.Wish I could see them all .

Have some favorite foods while you're dallied at the rail grin

Of course this is also for the cowboys in heart on the forum too. Our proud American tradition.

Here's to cowboys, Hoss cool

Thanks Sharon! That's some nice horse flesh the only thing missing is a cowgirl or 3 for me too look at. Hailey Kinsel is any So Texans favorite, Emily Beseil made me a fan when she was still Emily Miller from out west of Dodge City. My buddy Doug has a niece named Taylor Munsell that can be late on the barrier and still rope one in less than about 2 1/2 seconds.

Great shots of Hailey !

Lets add some more for you.

Im trying to remember, you have a family member that you shared very nice photos of a long time ago. In Spanish attire and gear. I think ? Those were very nice.

The first two are also Hailey.

Nice shots that's what I'm talkin about! I doubt many realize the horsemanship it takes to let a half psychotic race horse have its head then break it in half to change directions not just once but 3 times. Good watching I say.

You're thinkin of my cousin Heidi- she is a top hand over in Spain and they have some awfully good hands over there.

Those handy cowgirls draw in some guys who know there way around tge NFR. This isn't much of an action pic but it's my neighbors Shane and Taylor Hanchey. About as good of folks as you'd ever neet in or out of the arena. His invitational calf roping has expanded to include break away and youth events and is now the largest invitational roping in the country. Big shot in the arm for local businesses that week too.

Yes, your cousin Heidi . She was stylin on those horses .

That's a great shot of Shane and Taylor. To me, anyone on a horse is an action shot. I can just imagine them launching across the arena at any moment. That's very neat about the growth of break away and youth events . Kids who get into this outdoor sporting , or even winding up working as a hand , end up being good workers.

Sometime if you want to see superb athletic horses and riders, watch a pro polo event. I see them once in a while on TV. Im sure there's more on YouTube. They are awesome riders. The maneuvers the horses do are unmatched in any horse sports event. They are mix breeds, with Quarter horse, Arabian, thoroughbred lineage being dominant . They look amazing. Perfect conformation .

Fun pics of a true made in the USA horse.

You do seem to understand the things I hold dear Miss Sharon. I was and continue to be impressed with what kind of young men and women the youth rodeo competition produces.

I thought I would contribute a picture of the greatest horse that ever lived and a poor excuse of a cowboy (me). Its a old pic and she is gone now but she was my best friend and I cried like a baby the day she passed.

Dana 1, its things like this that we wished we would have been able to take more pics. That's true of me. There are those horses that stand out from the rest. Mules too. Thank you for sharing this.

Smash, you bet we like our Uncle Marlin ! A polite, thoughtful but tough Texan.

Slipknot, yes the Derby is today ! I haven't missed a Derby in years. 45% of the time I actually can pick the winners, not based on any fact sheet, either. If I can see each horse , what they look like and how they are acting that day, this tells me a lot. Fact sheet winners don't always win. I go by the time honored words " work the horse that shows up".... not what they've done at other times, but how their mood and energy is for that day in the present. Always look for my favorite pony horse there, that big half Percheron, half Appaloosa . He's a giant and gorgeous. None of the races can push him around. Black with big white blanket filled with nice oval spots.

Backroadsarcher, cowboys at heart, meaning those here who admire cowboys but haven't been able to be part of the lifestyle. Men or women.

Hoss, always like those shots of your youngster ! Bull riding is in a league of its own. Glad you have those great photos .

Thanks Sharon. My boy worked every event at one time or another but got frustrated with the bareback riding because he always placed 2nd to Jess Pope. As an adult Pope has been to the NFR 6 consecutive trips taking 3 average wins and a world title. Looks to me like the best in the world often have to deal with placing 2nd when he is around.

Dana a good horse makes for a good day!

I admit, Hoss, those multigenerational cowboys are hard to beat ! It is said they start riding as soon as they can stand. Your son surely did well regardless and yes he also has that generational encouragement that started him early.

My friend that I ride with often likes to say, a tired horse is a good horse !

A wee bit off topic, Im now tuned into the Kentucky Derby. I love seeing the horses, especially the poniers. I like them often in more interest than the star players. I study everyone's gear. Especially bitting.

Besides Taps , the opening trumpets for the race makes me want to stand to attention !

My favorite BIG man is there today-the huge Percheron/Appaloosa . Solid black, big white blanket with huge oval spots inside. He is so big he can be seen from space wink I see him immediately amongst the lines of horses to the gates.

I always had a dream of being a ponier. You can have whatever horse you want, use your gear. What stopped me was doing that I'd have to live in larger populations in areas of the country that I didn't want to be. Having good job offers out of Stanley Idaho and several different outfitters in Montana was much more to my liking.

See these shots of Harley ! For a horse like that I could have re-considered the location to work there !
