Yes, it's petrified. It appears to be a Cottonwood limb or trunk due to the bark on the outside. We have millions of them in Alaska. Even the inner wood pictures look exactly like a Cottonwood tree. I cannot see anything that does not look like a Cottonwood tree either. My guess it's a trunk, as that gets the bigger bark like that in your pictures. If it's from a limb, it was really big, thick and really old. I say a trunk. Should be more pieces nearby. Cottonwood will break up into pieces just like you have too. You can see the fibers of the bark in your pictures.

My Super Wide will pull your broken down 4 stroke, up a hill backwards, with you on it!

This piece is just over 3 ft tall with close to 15 inches in the ground. It's one of the biggest pieces I have. I know where there is a tree still standing that is over 20 feet tall.

I was cutting river agates for my flagstone patio the other day. Thought a piece of petrified wood might look cool hiding in a gap. That stuff is super hard, slowed down the tile saw a bit. Looked pretty cool cut though.

Do you have any pictures of the agate flagstones and petrified wood? I suspect they are beautiful.
