I think Canada federal gov. will bow down to Alberta's demands and nothing happens. I could be wrong though.

Beats me what will happen, I think it'll go to a referendum vote, it should anyways, petitions on both sides of the topic have been signed exceeding the minimum number of signatures so it seems fair to put it to a vote. I don't know what demands they will bow down to, maybe SP will chime in on that as he is involved.

I know one of the real big beefs they have is what we call equalization, or the distribution of income tax to the Feds to distribute to poorer provinces. You guys have the same thing there basically it just goes by a different name, Federal Grants-in Aid. There are lots of states that contribute more through federal income tax than they get back through Federal aid, and on the flip side you have lots of states that always get more in Federal aid than they contribute. I know there are other issues but that is the one that has been screamed about the loudest for years. Here provinces that always get more are called "have not" provinces, reading has taught me south of the border they're called "taker" states. I'm not saying I am this massive fan of the formula on how it works but I do see the irony in the Liberal feds being the Boogeyman on it when the last time the formula was changed to its current status was in 2009 under Conservative leadership.

But the question I have is does that factor in the massive amount of refugees that your country has brought in over the past 17+ years? I am guessing, but if like here, they gobble up lots of federal aid by hook or by crook…..

rv,

I thought another sticking point was not being allowed to produce more fossil fuel income for Alberta?
