Keith, my grandfather Fred Sodergren was born May 22, 1880 in or near Kewanee, Illinois and moved as a child to Mitchell, SD. He died in 1942 in Graham, Washington.

My grandpa was 45 when my dad was born. My dad was 45 when I was born. I'm 59 and have a 3 year old, 2 year old and one 7 months old. Hope I pass on some wisdom I didn't have when I was young.

This is my great grandpa about 1910 in Loysville PA. He caught these rats on Sherman's Creek. He was born in 1860. I still shoot his shotgun that is in this picture. He didn't have waders to get these rats. Wish I had some of his traps.

so you were like 50 and got yourself a 30 year old wife?

good for you

I thought it would be weird to date women 20 years younger since my kids are that age.

my parents were 46 when my oldest was born , my grandparents were 46 when I was born

My grandpa was born in 1901 in Indian territory, later known as Oklahoma, according to his birth certificate.

Does it have to be a grandparent? I’ve got an “autograph book” from a great aunt (maybe great great aunt?) that is dated 1865, and that is when she was a young adult. Not quite sure what year she was born.

All 4 of my grandparents (now deceased) were born in the late 1800s. Those of you with grandparents born in the 1920s are just youngsters! My parents were born earlier than that! LOL

My maternal grandmother and paternal grandfather were both born in 1874.
That's two years before the Custer Battle of the Little Big Horn.

Then I probably shouldn't tell you that mine were born in 1938 and 1940 lol.

Dad was born in 1909 and mom in 1915. Mom’s dad was killed in an electrical accident when she was four. He was an electrical engineer from NC State College. He was the plant supervisor of the electric company in Washington, NC. When I was a young child, I learned from relatives that a ladder fell and he contacted some high voltage wires.

My grandparents were all born late 1920's to early/1930's. So not nearly as long ago as some have mentioned.

Great grandparents were all born mid/late 1890's to early 1900's.

My great-great grandfather is the one that was an "interesting" character... Born 1849 in Illinois. At 12 years old when the civil war started, he ran away from home and tried to join the Union army. The army thought he was a bit young and took him back home. His mom told the army to keep him because she would know where he was and that he was getting fed regularly. So they kept him. He survived the civil war and later became a deputy US marshal out of Ft Smith. After that he moved to the Marshal's office in Guthrie, Oklahoma Indian Territory.

He is mentioned in a newspaper article of the time and was known for being the guy you wanted beside you as he was notoriously cool-headed in a gunfight.

According to my great grandfather, he was a better lawman than a father... His words were, "He was a mean son of a..."

I have a copy of his portrait somewhere.

My maternal Grandfather was born in 1905. The second oldest of 17 children. He went to work with his father in the coal mines when he was 12.
