I have a supply of chicken liver. I'm planning on using it as a base for predator bait. Not for sale, just to play around with. I was wondering if anyone else has done similar?

Ive tried liver from several different species and the reaction varies quite a bit. If its commercially raised chickens in confinement id have some concerns until I tested it. Thats all I have.

Farm raised chickens from my son's girlfriend's family. Nobody wants the giblets anymore with their meat birds.

Yep, it's worth trying. I've been testing some since summer.

We'll see how it works soon. It needs another week or so to give the SB a chance to be sure it's stopped. Kinda runny for a bait, may have to call it a bait/lure mix. Either way it smells like it'll work and my old dog seems to be obsessed with it. lol Surprised how much liver smell it actually gives off over the glands, castor, skunk essence & other ingredients.

All livers from any animal break down into a very fluid form after grinding and aging due to their high fluid content.

I didn't even grind them but my mixer is a bit aggressive. lol The consistency won't bother me, I may have to transfer it to a squeeze bottle though. laugh

What are some good "ingredients" to add to broken down liver for a bait solution?

If you want to bring back some body to the liver after it has broken down and is very liquidy, fresh ground and preserved mice works well. Also if you dont want a really rank liver base, as the liquid sinks to the bottom of the jar, pull the top material off and discard the watery juice at the bottom. This will keep the rank sewer smell to a minimum and a more mellow liver smell for your end product.

A long time ago I used gizzards fresh for fox, I ate the liver!

Thanks for the advice. I really don't want it too rank. I'm experimenting on a bait solution using liver for the base.
