Can you tell by banging on it with the back of your ax or a hammer?
I'd guess yes from pic.

Around here most any basswood over 18 inches is gonna have rot started. I would guess one that size would be just a little less than 0% chance of being solid. Good on you for getting it down with a Sthil. That takes some skill and determination to tackle a job that big with such subpar equipment. lol

Donnersurvivor, a cross section of that would look really cool as the base of a huge glass top table. What a shape.

This saw has likely witnessed $1,000,000 in tree work with only a handful of wear parts replaced, only thing subpar is the operator.

I'll toss a big hollow chunk in my yard as a dog house, I like to keep up the white trash appearance.

How many wedges to keep it from setting back on you? I'm sure the top was out before you started in on that base.

I had to climb it and bomb out the canopy, added a large rope while I was up there and had a guy put some pressure on it. I didn't want to use a longer bar/bigger saw and end up wrecking another chain so I just ringed it with the 25" bar and stepped back and let the machine pull it down

The poured epoxy tables look better than the glass top ones. One of the wood workers, whose videos I watch, is sometimes getting tens of thousands of dollars per table. The tables look amazing. They are fantastic works of art that will be appreciated for generations.

Donnersuvivor, you should try to market some of your more interesting trees to that market, especially heavily figured and spalded wood. The guy I watch pays thousands for some blanks for tables.
