When Finn shot his turkey last week it had a band on its leg. When he shot it there was another tom turkey that was banded as well.I don’t have the picture yet but My other grandson Isaac shot the second banded tom this week .When they turned the tag numbers in come to find out both Tom’s we’re banded last year in the town of Chester over 40 miles away.I never realized turkeys would travel that far and Inland fisheries and wildlife did not move them.Very interesting.[Linked Image]

That is pretty interesting and cool. Never would have thought either that they would move that far. Figured 3-4 miles max.

That's astounding! That's about 10 times further than I figured they moved around here.

Been hunting and killing turkeys for almost 40 years and I can't even imagine how exciting it would be to get one with a band!

Congrats to the boys!

Out of curiosity how is the turkey population where you're at? Wonder if they moved out of food competition or dominance?

Wow. I figured a mile or 2. Had a group of 9 jakes last year so I figured most would be around this year. Guess not!

Wow, never thought they would move that far, that is great that the state of Maine has a program like that, it helps understand Turkey movements. Here in New York, NYSDEC is to busy carrying out Gov. hochul's green agenda's.

Pretty good here population in the north, but southern and mid Maine has many more turkeys but getting better and better here in northern Maine.Pretty amazing seeing those big birds up in the tops of the hardwood trees budding like a grouse.

Shot a banded big tom turkey years ago. Sent the band in. The state sent the band and a little hat pin with a turkey on it back. Said it was banded 3 years before about 1 mile away. He was a heavy bird with nice spurs but a short beard.
