Need more info. How big of place are you using it on? Do you already have a pile of battery’s ? Those are the things I would be looking at. If you’re using tanks full of fuel you would need several battery’s to equal that.

I've got a Stihl and I'm less than impressed with it. It's been a pain to start since new about 17 years ago So much to the point I spray weed and grass killer around my house and yard shed. I'd much rather have an electric. My mother in law bought the Stihl based on her sons recommendation and I wasn't expecting that. I'd planned on getting an electric back then.

I have a Milwaukee trimmer. Like anti gov I would never go back. I'm not doing commercial.

9 amp battery last quite awhile. 12 amp even longer.

Also considering selling all my gas Stihl equipment.
Watching sales and will get bigger amp hr. battery for spare.

Quiet , lighter , very happy so far.
Light residential use for me.

It perfect .

I have two powerful weed eaters so the boys can get additional work. Often folks dont mind riding a mower and cutting their grass but dont want to weed eat the ditch or fence lines. Its usually thick heavy tall pasture grass no and weeds not grass along the house or mail box post so low power weed eaters dont cut it ( went down that route at first) I think the boys made a few thousand last year on weed eating only jobs.

The good is they have large fuel tanks run a long time and really cut tall stuff down fast. Draw back is thay are heavy and loud. For a typical home owner they are almost to much. When weed eating at their typical yard jobs in town just knowing down grass around the house I find myself running them at half to 3/4 throttle so they dont get away from me and eat final siding for example.

Next one will be a battery powered one, likely Milwaukee since I am changing tools as I need new ones to Milwaukee

IF you buy gas, stay away from the Stihl 4 strokes

Had a pole saw that had a very short life, something to do with internals

If your just doing light work around a house like you said go with a battery one. I have know idea which ones the best. If your weed whacking ditches and fence lines go with a good gas one. I've been using Stihl gas ones for a long long time and never had any trouble with them. Lots of people don't run them at full RPM's and doing that will carbon up the mufflers. I've even used the saw blades on mine but those saw blades are dangerous.

I use a Ryobi cause I already had the batteries, works fine on grass and light weeds, lasts long enough to trim around the yard and you can change batteries if you need more time, or stick the one you got in the charger and take a beer break. grin

I think the one I have was a combo, trimmer and blower with battery and charger and was on sale...I think HD has all of the yard ryobis on sale right now..., There's probably better ones?, but if you already have the batteries it's a no brainer...I won't have another gas one...

I like the idea of battery ones. I've used friends and family members whips, mowers, saws, etc. All pretty slick.

I think for normal homeowner stuff battery is the way to go.

Just seems like ever 3-4 years they replace everything because the new version comes out with a better battery or whatever. Plus when the stuff gets think, battery folks have to reach for the gas models.

My gas Husqvarna whip/edger, backpack blower, chainsaws and snowblower are all 5-6+ yrs old and going strong. Same as my gas Honda push mower.
Not sure what I'll do when I eventually need to replace my stuff.

I bought a dewalt 20v trimmer when I lived in town. It was great for the house and garage, and a little landscaping.

Now out in the country with a lot more to trim, it was taking 5+ battery charges to get everything done. Bought a Stihl gas trimmer, and its the ticket now.

From what it sounds like you have, a battery trimmer would be fine. Lighter weight, no mixing fuel. Always starts.

Get a name brand, and make sure it takes a standard size line.

I started with an el cheapo and it took an off size line that was hard to find locally.

Gone battery on most of my yard and truck tools. I have 4 batteries that fit all my tools( Ryobi ). Got tired of aggrivating a bad shoulder trying to start my chain saw and weed trimmer and fooling with fuel fouling issues and going to the repair shop. Granted battery run time is somewhat limited compared to fuel motors but I get more done now with less fatique on the body.

Love my battery chain saw and trimmer. Got a big place to keep up, so extra batteries of the high amp type are best. A little investment in the beginning but it is how I roll now.

Have both. Tend to grab my stihl straight shaft gas when I have trimming around the electric fence etc. Few bee boxes grab the electric. Trimming more than 50-60 feet I go gas. Electric nice around bee hives

Again - you get what you pay for.
