Yeah, it was a big one. It looked like a Northern Pike to me, but I don’t know if they exist where she was fishing.

Eh...wot?

Yes it was a nice big fish. Also looked like northern to me but I’m not sure either as it’s very different habitat

Neat. I've never caught a pike and would have assumed that was a muskie. I guess they look alike, I've never caught either. Nice fish.

it was just a nasty old pike, only good for patties. i don't care about trophy fishing, fish is just food. it wasn't that big, it's me who is too small. there is a word all russian men use for the likes of me, poltorashka, meaning a 1.5 liter beer bottle, for insufficiently tall women who are 150-something cm short.

the fish was from here.

Very nice fish. Thanks for showing it.

(My son's girlfriend is shorter than 150cm. So there...HEY! Now I know what to call her!)

Ha! I remember years ago when NewHouse114 was complaining about the ratio of men to women in Alaska. He was a single dad. I told him to come with me to Central and South America and we would fix him up. He's been married now with a Costa Rican gal for about the last 34-35 years.

So I don't know if Alaska still has more men than women...but sure isn't far from Siberia!

What is ligulosis?? And what do you catch your pike on ? Bait or is there a Russian equivalent to American Shad Raps or spoons etc.? G.

For clarity, we are speaking about legal size fish right?

1988 fishing in a 12 foot row boat with oars ( no motor) in a shallow weedy flowage. Using a Mitchell 300 with 8 lbs. test and a small daredevil, fishing the edge of the river channel with my 12 year old son and a bass net.
I hooked a fish and it took a few minutes for me to realize it was a large fish. Finally it came to the surface and I could see the dorsal fin about 3 feet behind the line!. This was late July and the water was warm and dark and stained. I let the fish circle the boat a few times trying to figure out what I could do. Finally I took the small net and got the front half of the fish in and scooped into the boat and I put my feet on the fish and rowed back to our launch area. The fish was on for about 35 to 40 minutes. It turned out to be a 15 year old 50.5 inch 30 lbs. muskey! My uncle who had just recovered from his first bout with cancer mounted the fish for me. The cancer came back and he died the next fall. The fish is on the wall at our north location.
