As I type out some thoughts I realize this may be the one post that could be my last. I don't want to argue politics, but after listening to the live stream of the Watertown, WI School Board last night I've accepted that the nut jobs on the board are more than pushing an agenda. This escalation of political BS in this country has gone way too far and common sense is clearly behind us. Its a small community in the farm country here and ironically I know many of them can be extreme hypocrites. Its obvious the best years have past and I don't believe we are ever getting back to a sensible place in society.
So quick back history on the emergency board meeting - The music teacher at the highschool selected a wind ensemble to be played this spring that was written by a gay or trans composer. Mother of a Revolution, a world-renowned composition by Omar Thomas. Teacher sent a letter out to all parents giving the opportunity to opt out if they opposed way back in October. A week before the concert, a board member had a gay panic attack and called an emergency meeting to have it banned.
So the part that kept me up much of the night and still thinking about this was all the comments made that were "off-mic" that could still be heard. "I don't care if they think its F'n censorship", "God wouldn't approve of this", "...we need to end this indoctrination", and much more. Parents and students that politely and in a civilized manor spoke were yelled at, told to shut up, talked over, and abruptly cut off.
The teacher did the right thing and followed policy back in the beginning of October. So now 7 months later, a board lacking media attention, blows this up like some end of earth disaster.
Now this is where I have huge issues with what is going on. I am a Republican and lean moderately conservative. However, in light of national news and propaganda, these Extreme far right Maga freaks have been voted into the board, inserting their personal opinion over the best judgement for the community. Whenever they can take a slightly questionable circumstance, they are quick to blow it out of proportion, apply censorship to secure their personal views, ignore the separation of church and state, and blatantly make false accusations about teachers and staff. My daughters went to school with their kids. I have trapped on a number of their farms. We encounter one another at the stores, restaurants, gas stations, and at friend's homes.
I was kicked off a few farms because my daughters were trapping with me. I was told many times my daughters had no business killing animals and it would screw them up for becoming a mom. I have been looked down upon and ridiculed because I joined "that church". My daughter's friend was approached in public and solicited to have a threesome (by a board member). Ironically, at a stop light I observed a board member stopped at the light with Queen rocking on the radio and they were singing right along with it. So you blast one gay composer with no lyrics, and its ok to sing the songs of a gay rock star??? Where does this end and common sense come back. Told my wife this morning I don't want my grandkids in a school governed by this communist MAGA group. I don't want them indoctrinated into a society that believes there is only 1 way to worship god, that a woman's place is being her husbands slave, John Deere is better than Case, and the narrow minded hypocrites should allow censorship and be dictators.
I came out of a parochial school. It wasn't a political setting, but it was an indoctrination to controlling by fear. The countless lies the pastors told us and scare tactics used to form kids into believing their lies is nearly indescribable. As I became a young adult and business owner, I'm grateful I saw past my childhood experiences. But what I am witnessing now is far beyond what I experienced and I can't help but wonder what this polar political landscape is going to do to our kids/grandkids??? I believed in the Watertown School District and my daughters have an outstanding education. These freaks are going to destroy it for future generations in name of "preventing liberals" . The only issue we had was the perception made by these freaks that we had a issue. Now they take everything to an extreme and blame liberals for the problem they are trying to convince us that exists. I know we are not the only small community experiencing this. Tman generally has a sampling from across the county of small and rural areas. How are you guys combatting this??? "communist MAGA group" tells me all I need to see where OP is coming from

I don't think expecting some decorum during public hearings, no matter the politics of the attendees, rises to the level of hysterics the hysterics I referenced was the "Everything in the classroom requires parental notification". waiting to hear how many Parental Notifications they send out each day. perhaps he can post a few of the more common ones... I don't know the exact number as I am no longer a parent of a child in the system. My daughter sends out what looks like a novel for first grade, kind of funny, but its an outline of the years syllabus, outline of what/who's books used, reference material, what structured teaching method and the list goes on and on. So I only know limited details of the mailings. Like I said, I'm not a parent with a child in the system so my knowledge comes from wife and daughter that works in the system "communist MAGA group" tells me all I need to see where OP is coming from I probably should have been better at the description of their actions. Undisciplined - pathetic -POS - complete embarrassment to the Republican party - worse than a 3 year old terrorist that has nothing more than a sperm and egg donor.

YOUR???? did you wake up smoking crack??? Do not lump me into either of the pathetic extreme group. Keep in mind that is a very small snippet. What you are not seeing/hearing is the bantering started by the board and all the off-mic comments that were extremely unprofessional. I agree as time went on, the entire situation of both board and public got much worse - a heck of a lot worse that what was in the news. Who could have controlled the demeaner of the meeting - THE BOARD! they failed

What I am finding most humorous about this is that the OP must never watching any meetings of congress on CSPAN. What he is describing sounds pretty tame compared to what goes on in the halls of congress these days.
Gotta find a way, a better way, I'd better wait

So let me get this right... band kids were practicing for a year and have been planning a band concert at the school playing instruments with no lyrics and there is a huge outcry b/c a gay person composed the piece? Did I miss something? Its not pushing any agenda right? How is this indoctornating children? Do you have any idea how many TV shows, movies, books, and the such were written by someone gay? I don't think the kids are going to think anything about anything. They are learning music and playing an instrument for the parents and grandparents to hear. I don't think they'll be marching out of the school in a gay pride parade or anything. The performance: https://youtu.be/R6ieR-YZ4eY?si=0aRxdRpNP_tPdF7r

another point that bothers me...if they were just performing a "wind ensemble" musical piece, how is it even relevant (enough so that they had to send out parental notifications 7 months ago) who wrote the piece? there has to be more to the story...thinking there WAS going to be some indoctrination planned.
Of course, the old indoctrination card gets played. LOL It's wild how that card gets played so often but not actually towards the greatest institutions of indoctrination out there. Anyways, the reason is simple. You send end the note out to prevent the old "we didn't know anything about this" card from being played. Where I work 10 notes a week go out informing parents of things coming down the pipe. Why? Well, you learn to when you have to deal with complaining about not informing about everything under the sun. I'll bet they learned their lesson from something they previously deemed not relevant enough to worry about.

Obviously I am being sarcastic towards the softies that cry indoctrination all of the time.

The song is in honor of a gay prostitute, who is the "mother" in Mother of a Revolution and a violent riot, which is the "revolution" in the title. Anyone who thinks songs about those topics are appropriate songs for children is not a conservative and supports grooming children for homosexuality.
