Can't put off hernia surgery any longer-it has been several years that I have put off taking care of this-but is pretty large now and My surgeon and his robot will take care of it in 2 weeks. While I will go home the same day,My daughter must stay with me for 12 hours. I will have a lifting limit of 15 pounds for 30 days--so I will even need help getting groceries---tall about the golden years and getting old

Hope it goes well for you. I had a kidney removed and a robot was used. What a piece of cake, no discomfort at all. My Dr. said that a person has less trauma and heals faster and better with the robot doing the surgery.

Mike--the procedure is a robotic ventral hernia repair. All I know is that [t is bigger than a soft ball above my belly button, Last time I had hernia surgery was 1954-- the nurses called me--the little old man, because I walked all hunched over.

I had two hernia surgery’s, first was slice and patch second was robotic, huge difference. First one I was down for a full week. I was in great shape back then. Took it easy for the month. Second I was out for just a couple days no pain meds at all other than what I got at the hospital. Both mine wherein the groin. Seems you feel the patch for about a year but then that goes away. I blame mine on being a garbage hauler for 33 years. When I started we still had carrying cans that fit several normal trash cans into then run to the truck.

Thanks, the reason I asked because I had two groin hernias repaired and have an umbilical one forming, protruding out approx. 1'.

Those robotic devices are neat. My surgeon friend told me he can see capillaries, and the device is dead-solid steady. No quiver at all. What is scary is that the surgeon does not even have to be in the operating room.

My wife's hip replacement was done with a robot. Went very well, quick recovery. Hopefully, your experience will be the same. Prayer sent.

Got a photo from a speeding camera in the mail. I immediately sent it back - way too expensive and really poor quality.

I had one about the same size tom. Had it repaired last September. The robot makes it a piece of cake.
Good luck !

I've had an umbilical hernia for decades. It has slowly gotten bigger. Now that I've lost about thirty pounds it is much more noticeable.

I guess I should figure the best time to be out of action for a while and schedule a repair.

I've read a fair amount about the issues they were having with the mesh. There are even some lawsuits. It's a bit concerning.

Here's wishing you a speedy recovery Bogmaster.

The new mesh is a lot different. The old stuff was like chicken wire ))) . The new stuff is Polypropylene if I remember what the doc said. The old stuff would move. The new stuff actually allows the tissue to grow into it preventing it from moving. That is why they don't want you lifting more than 10 pounds for 6 weeks or engaging in gymnastic competition so that it has a chance to stabilize and allow tissue to attach
