Buddy came by. Was getting in the bathtub and seen a big black snake in the house. So I went over and of course snake could not be found. I came home with him out in the yard afraid to go back in. I left as it seems like a good time for him to confront his unreasonable fear.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

It's funny, but people are either completely terrified of snakes or not bothered at all. Nobody is just a little scared.

I rolled over an old up side down mineral tub last week and admit I jumped back pretty darn fast when I saw the large black snake coiled up under it. It was clos to shedding with milky eyes . I just put the tub back down not wanith to disturb it further. I wont call it a kink snake rat snake or any species becuse i cant tell one from the other so they are black snakes to me. I like thwm they eat the redenta and kink snake will eat the copper heads. So they all get a pass as long as they are not in or around the chicken coop. I always instinctively pull away fast when I see a snake unexpected. Heck 2 weeks ago I pulled back when I saw one of those large tan skins with red areas. All I saw was its head at first and misd said snake and pulled the dog back.
Probably a lot different than needing to call someone and to afraid to go back in the house.

An old family story here: When my family first moved to our farm in '53 my dad offered the local kids a dollar for every bull snake they would bring him to turn loose for rodent control. Mom was paying double for the kids to find and remove them!

I have a buddy in Kansas he doesn't like snakes one bit. I found a big bull snake on the ice in January one year when I was trapping out there. I was crossing a high water bridge and looked down and there it was. I thought it was someones fan belt that flew off at first. Of course I stopped and backed up to get down closer to see what it was. I picked it up and took it back to my bunk house where I was staying. Needless to say my buddy wasn't a happy camper .

Snakes don’t bother me. I just try to be as careful as possible being in rattle snake country. Thankfully, we don’t have any other types of poisonous snakes here in Idaho including the Diamondback rattlers.

If you have a crawlspace or basement you probably have black snakes spending the winter there. They will coil around a water pipe.
If someone drilled sloppily large holes in the floor it would be easy to imagine getting one in the house.

There's also a fear that somewhere a duck is watching you.... Anatidaephobia Round here that is almost certainly the case though....
Gotta find a way, a better way, I'd better wait
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you
