Found out there is a beagle pup breeder about 25 miles away from me. Out of curiosity I went to check them out.
950 bucks!!! Ouch. Apparently these are the pocket beagles. I don’t know the going rate for rabbit dogs are because the ones I’ve ever had were around 100 bucks but weren’t papered hunters.

Not currently looking for any right now,,, was just curious and looked them up,,, I’ll admit I’m a sucker for looking at beagle pups

Used to be able to find a pretty good bird dog for a hundred bucks too. Not so much anymore.

Who and where does one need a pretty good bird dog?

I’ve need a lot of birds dogs. Never got one for a 100 bucks.

I used to sell beagle puppies for mostly $250.00 to $300.00 The highest I ever sold trained beagles, out of World Champion beagles, that I showed the buyer in the field, was $800.00. I had 28 beagles that I started become champions. I had daughters of 4 International Field Champions, 2 females and a male out of 3 different World Champions. I also had Blue Man's Soda Pop, who was ranked 4th in the world in 2012. He was a champion in 3 fast formats and was short just one win, in two other formats, to be champions in them too.

Ive sold beagle pups from 100.00 to 400.00 a pup all shots and wormed.never had a problem selling them.pups are expensive my daughter paid close to 2,000 for her house/lap pup at 8 weeks old,coonhounds are getting ridiculously priced too pups 400.00 on up and trained dogs into the high thousands.

I used to hunt bird dogs and hounds for bear and lion. This was a long time ago. 1994 Oregon banned hunting cougar and bear with hounds. I paid $300-400 back then for quality bred pups. Birdogs I paid up to $500 for a pup, close to 25 years ago. What’s your time worth? Spend a year to find out you have a cull? Buy the best you can afford and it’s still a gamble. If you can find a proven cross that’s the best option. And a tired dog is a good dog. Keep them busy.

There are more beagle breeders who breed for pets or show than there are breeders of hunting beagles. And the pet/show dogs are so far removed from good hunting stock that they wouldnt make anything other than a lap dog.

So definitely depends on if your looking for a straight pet or pet/hunting dog. But yeah either way you go the prices for papered dogs is high.

Labs from good hunting stock have gotten expensive too, $1,250-$2,500.

One thing about buying a puppy. Never ever take your wife with you !!!!! We went to look at some lab pups and the lady came walking up to the truck holding a puppy, we got out and the lady handed the pup to my wife and just said here, you can just hold this one for awhile. I looked at my wife and I got my check book out. NO way was she turning loose of that pup. Turned out to be a darn good dog. Just like a lot of others on this forum. I can tell you true stories about what that dog could and would do.

Bird dog prices around here crept from $250-$450 from about 1995-2015. Just average hunters with a litter. Way fewer birds mean those sellers are mostly gone. Went to buy one last year. Harder to find as many for one so supply and demand factors into the price. Most were over $1000. Found a new small breeder selling for $800 and thought I got a deal. I sold three litters from 2007-2011 for $400 each. German Shorthair Pointers. About 70% were never going to hunt.

That little turd was getting back at you for never taking him hunting. You got what you deserved.

Cousins sell golden doodles for a couple grand so the price is what the market will pay . I don’t blame anyone who pays it or charges the price I myself won’t pay over 150 for a dog and that’s pushing it since they usually get hit in the road but that’s rural life

My last Beagle passed this winter, Had them most of my life. Dont know if I can get another.
