If memory serves, I think it was the largest chambering in the 76 Winchester. Seems like they loaded around a 300 grain bullet. I think someone is making a reproduction.

Did you find one? It'd be a neat gun to hunt with.

Uberti is making a reproduction of the Winchester '76 in this caliber.I like the old straight wall cartridges,I know nothing about this one.I found one place that actually loads for this round at $120 A box of 20! But I'm still intrigued by this old round, and I agree, would love to hunt with one.

Winchester makes a 45/90 that I keep looking at, a 50/95 sounds like a neat round.

I've got a 45/90 Winchester, absolutly love it.Bought it brand new a year ago,it handles great, shoots accurately right out of the box, never had to adjust the sights.

I’ve got a 50/70 rolling block and a 50/140 C. Sharps. The old 50s are pretty fun to tinker with.

A fellow shooter at the range I went to in Alaska had one of the Uberti copies. Nice rifle. Slightly bottle necked case. He took a few moose with it. He said moose don’t like it one bit. I shot it a few times when we both at the range. Recoil was not bad at all. If I stumbled on to a used one locally I’d probably do something financially irresponsible.

Trail cameras and fresh snow have broke a lot of trapper’s hearts.

If I cave and get one Ill do just that.I made a call today to see what the out the door price would be if I ordered one.I was kind of surprised when I asked her if they'd ever ordered anything from Uberti and she said yes,we've ordered them before.

She didn't get back to me,but I looked up on Ubertis website and their running them for about $1200.00.,$1129.99 to be exact. To tell you the truth,I thought they were going to be higher than that, quite a bit higher. The first time I heard of the round Uber to had made a copy of a rare Winchester in 50/95,if I recall right the price was $2700.That shut me down fast.

Don’t have a 50/95 but I do have a model 1886 in 50/110 and it’s a thumper, I don’t think you would regret one in 50/95

I love the old calibers and am glad that companies like Uberti and others are bringing some of them back

By the way a set of dies and some basic brass from Dixie gun works makes it cheap to shoot, well relatively speaking anyways

It’s a useful skill and one of the beauties of those old cartridges is there so easy to reload, the old timers often did it with homemade makeshift tools or one of the old tong tools, modern reloading equipment make it downright almost a no brainer

And considering the cost of factory (if you can find it) ammo for those old calibers it’s a heck of a lot cheaper, I can reload a batch of 50/110, 50/90 sharps, 44/77 sharps, 33 Winchester or one of the other so called obsolete cartridges for less then a box of 50 cheap 9mm range rounds and that’s if I’m buying the bullets not casting my own then it’s even cheaper

Dad deer hunted with his 86 in 50/110 Express year before last. After he missed a BEAUTIFUL big buck...............standing broadside..........three times......he decided it was time to retire iron sights and sold the rifle.

I have nothing clever to put here.

No it’s an 1886 copy made by Miroku of Japan and branded by Winchester it was an offering they had several years ago but I bought it used of gun broker a few years ago, I don’t know if it’s still offered in that caliber, I also have an original made in 1891 also in 50/110 that’s a takedown, sadly while the outside is in good shape the bore is shot so it’s just a wall hanger

Various copies have come out in the 50/110 such as the 1885 ect and come up sometimes on the auction sites but I don’t think anyone currently has one in production right now but several did a few years back including Winchester, Uberti, and others
