In a bit of a bind. The township where our hunting property is located will no longer mow the ditch line and passed the responsibility to the land owner. I have a MF35 with a 5 foot rotary mower that I use on the property. The problem is the ditch line is too steep. I will eventually kill myself by tipping the tractor over. The front end gets light, starts slipping down the hill, and I put all my weight on the uphill side ready to jump.

I am searching for a pitmanless sickle mower or other ideas to do this more safely.

Thanks for ideas and help,

Josh

Property located near Thief River Falls MN

Check out any of the older implement dealers or even craiglist. I would think you would find a sickle mower on or at either sight.

Dont know your local politics out there, but I would likely just not mow it since it couldnt be done safely.

Been there done that. Rather than mowing across the side of the ditch, mower diagonally up and down the ditch. Best to mow driving perpendicular up the ditch. Add front weights to counterbalance the weight of the rotary mower.

Probably not a good idea to be mowing on that steep of an angle, outside of the tipping issue, you are probably exceeding the angle of operation for the tractor ... moving oil away away from the various sump pickups.

How long of a strip?, might be easier and cheaper, not to mention safer, to get a DR walk behind type cutter....
