Who has been through cataract surgery before? What type of lens did you get? Did you opt for London distance or close range, or one of each? I've heard that there is a glare problem with the premium lens.

Any thing you would do differently, do you still need glasses? How much was your out of pocket expense?

I had surgery 2 years ago. Had tri focal lenses , put in . They are long and short vision. 20 20 at my last examination. read the smallest line . Havent wore glasses since. Canada pays for standard lenses. Mine were 6000.00 can, which I payed. Very happy with them. I wear good sunglasses on bright days , none when the sun , isn;t out.. My eyes had got so bad, I didn;t trust myself , to shoot. Let a nice buck , walk, coudn;t see ,, didn;t want to wound him. I would recommend the tri focals,, worth the extra money. , might have to look around to find a surgeon that does them. Good Luck old 243

Over the last 2+ years I've had both eyes done. I have the old school basic lens for distance. Was more important to me to be able to see farther away than close up but I started having my ability to see up close for reading etc go when I was around 40 and have had to use readers ever since. My surgeon suggested if I wanted the best possibility of clear vision far away those were best option for me versus the newer premium lens. Downside is I cant read the phone, computer, etc without readers on but distance vision is right at 20/20. Unfortunately for me my vision up until 5-6 years ago for distance was better than 20/20 but both of my cataracts developed and progressed over a year to the point where I had virtually no vision left so being able to see again at 20/20 is great. I dont need any correction for distance under normal circumstances but I did get a script for shooting glasses that actually makes things exceptionally clear and sharp. I havent gone shooting yet but hoping I'll be able to see the targets once again.

There's definitely some night glare with bright lights for me. The first eye was done over two years ago and the glare has reduced over time. The second eye was done about 2 months ago. If you are like me, you wont be able to go outside when theres any sunshine without some sunglasses on.

Insurance completely covered the first one. Unfortunately different insurance with the second one and I think the cost was around $5k as deductible wasnt met at time of procedure

My wife just had it done in the last six weeks and went with the progressive lenses. Supposed to allow you to read and see off. She now sees off great. She still uses off the shelf readers some for small print up close and her closeup vision is still improving. I wear contacts for distance and readers up close. My wife can read better naked eye now than I can with my readers. The lenses she has also allow for minor adjustments with a laser and no surgery. We have medicare and Fed Blue Cross. Out of pocket was $8000 total. Medicare pays for basic lenses but you will still need readers. Toric lenses are better for astigmatism and will cost about $7000 out of pocket. Supposedly, all are good for the rest of your life.

Basically, very little pain or discomfort during or after lens replacement

Mine are Torex. They are sort of like no-line bifocals. I don’t need glasses for any activity now. Well worth the added cost.

Invest now in some good sunglasses. Thank me later.

Had both eyes done during covid in 2020. Had standard distance lenses in both eyes. Posted my experience in the Health Forum under Cataracts Anyone.

Well pleased with my choice but I will say that your lens choice should take into consideration your specific conditions. It is not a one size fits all scenario. Talk it over with you Doctor. I went with what my Doctor recommended after discussing the various choices.

I had both eyes done, they put lenses in for seeing every day distance. I was wearing cheaters before and still need to so that doesn't bother me. But can see better at average distance. My problem was my vision was very foggy couldn't see any distance. I shouldn't have waited so long.

I go for my 1st consultation Monday.. not real excited about it. Your eyes are a precious commodity so it's kinda hard to trust them to someone else.

I've had both eyes done about 15 yrs ago. After 1 year things got cloudy. The eye surgeon said that there is a thin skin that grows over the lens. He did laser cleaning and haven't had a problem since.

Anyone had it done using the V A ?

Be aware that the trifocals are not recommended if you have AMD. They also apparently don't work too well for shooting iron sights. Other than that I would say go for them.

I had both eyes done in 2019. I had to wear contact lens for the twenty years prior. Now I’m good, but still need reading glasses for up close.

Had both eyes done in late 2023. Went with the multifocal lens, but not the light adjustable lens. Cost about $6000 for both eyes over what Medicare pays. Well worth it in my opinion. I wanted a bias toward distance so doc made a slight difference in focal length between the eyes. Corrected stigmatism too. As others have said, good pair of sunglasses in bright sun.
