Walking thru one of the woodlots on the family farm today and looked up this old beech tree. It is getting hard to read but it says FTS (Fred Thomas Space) and under it the date 1948. My dad had said he carved it when he shot a buck there in December 1948.

That's really something. If only trees could talk. 1948, That's the year I was born.

I worked for an elderly lady some years back. We were in her yard and she noticed on an aspen tree something written. Here it was her name and her late husbands name in the bark. Her husband had been gone for many years. She was ecstatic about it.

You see marking in aspens in the forests here.

You still have beech trees i NJ? Our here, at least in Central Pa, are long gone. Ash is standing dead and falling. Hemlock is next it looks......jk
