I’ve always used cable that was described as GAC: galvanized aircraft cable. Then I started reading about stainless steel cable. Which is better?

I typically us 7x7 galvanized got some thinner stuff with more strands once it seemed faster when loaded. Dont think I have ever seen stainless offered. Sounds like a way to spend more money on something thats a one time use when galvanized works perfectly. But that is just my uneducated guess.

I will watch this. and see if im incorect.

ssac is extremely strong.
Overkill for 99% of applications.

Newt Sterling sells it. Yup, it’s more expensive than GAC. I suspect it’s good when dealing with salt/brackish water. Though GAC should do just fine if it’s partially submerged.

I guess I'm old school. If it's not broke don't fix it.

Galvanized is better, imo, because if left in field it'll eventually rust out and not be a long term liability.

Wouldn't SS be harder to work with? Like harder to cut and stiffer than galvanized? Is it as easy to take the shine off as you can with galvanized?

Got a photo from a speeding camera in the mail. I immediately sent it back - way too expensive and really poor quality.

ssac makes a very nice snare, but yes it will not dye to a dark colour, but will take a very light tan colour when dyed and waxed.
I got a few rolls of it but dont use it,like I said overkill.
If you wanted to hold an animal alive for an extended period (dont know why you would though) ssac is what you want.

I use it. I order a roll of SS many years ago when the price wasn't horrible. I still have quite a bit of it yet. Won't ever have to order again.
