The big stink on this side of the big ditch is Cades Cove blackies. Stupid idiots traffic jam through while folks think they can pet yogi or feed yogi then get their panties in a wad when Ranger Smith yells at them or if Ranger Smith has to rubber bullet yogi or worse.

Was in Custer State Park when this happened, from the reports I was told the hikers did everything right. Hiking up a canyon and came around the corner and encountered several bulls in the trail ahead, were turning around when a buffalo they didn’t see came out of the brush and stomped her.
Of all the cases where I’ve seen that people got what they deserved this doesn’t sound like one of them.

Perhaps not putting a walking trail thru a buffalo herd. Some day the college educated idiots will figure it out.

Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Have you been to Custer State Park? Buffalo are free to roam like 95% of the park, there are hundreds of miles of hiking trails thru the park as well. It’s not uncommon to see Buffalo on hikes and it’s usually easy to keep your distance when hiking but occasionally bad situations arise. Same with elk or turkey hunters, they can easily cross paths with them as well.

I was hired to trap red fox at a local zoo. They were wearing out their walking around birds, A gut gave me a behind the scenes tour while showing me where he thought the fox were getting in.
I asked him what do they have on hand in case a dangerous animal were to escape. He said that they have a .375 H&H magnum available, but prefer a 12 gauge shotgun with slugs for close up shots.
I then asked him what was the most dangerous animal there and he didn't hesitate when he stated clearly, the bison. They do not like to be contained and have a bad attitude. They have lions, tigers, bears and elephants. He said that as long as they are fed they are pretty lazy.

There's a group who is buying up ranches to return buffalo to the range like days gone by wanting to turn Montana into an American Serengeti .

A Indian tribe received a ranch and did what they want to do and put quite a few buffalo on it and built miles of new fence up and improved water tanks and the whole 9 yards .
Which was fine at first until the buffalo started visiting the neighbors cows, they offered to start shooting the buffalo as they were afraid of Brucellosis spreading to their livestock .

Now those buffalo are all long gone with black Angus in there place .

The initial group uses out of country money to purchase all the ranches and build guest camps so people can sleep in teepee's and commune with nature ?
Its a long way to a major medical center in case a person gets ran over by a buffalo , even the calves can hurt you if you're not careful !

I knew the veterinarian who worked on the buffalo herd for the tribe who told me about it ! Ha ha

You're friend along the snare line .
