I tried googling it and it says, apple cider, vinegar and dish soap. They don't even crawl down in to the cup after that. What do you guys use to kill fruit flies

Have you tried using stepping sticks and blending in your set better?

I have nothing clever to put here.

That's what we used at work to get rid of an infestation. It worked very well. Only used a few drops of Dawn.

I haven't yet... I was spending too much time on the spikes at the bottom of the pit. Where the grapefruit is.

Which fruit flies are you talking about? D. suzukii are the scourge of the planet. They have cost me tens of thousands of dollars in just the last decade. Since they lay eggs into fruit you need to control the adults. One pregnant female can give rise to ten trillion offspring over the course of a summer according to U. Cal-Davis researchers.

They are the main reason I have to charge as much for fruit as I do. One quart of Entrust (which needs t be sprayed weekly) costs about $600.

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

Strong apple cider vinegar will attract them nicely. Dont add anything else. they will drown themselves quickly. Fill up a bowl or cup, whatever you need cover it with saran wrap tightly and poke some small holes ( 1/4 " or less ) in the saran wrap for them to enter. Sit your traps around the problem area.

An old vitamin bottle would work nicely. You can drill holes in the bottle cap and screw on tightly. Check in a day or so and see if you see them floating in the bottom of the jar.

Set the jar aside when you are done and use it again as needed. Just stretch some saran wrap over the bottle and keep the vinegar in the jar and screw the lid on tightly again.

Try to remove the primary food source or contain the food if possible. A night lite light source or some other types of a counter stove light etc will help draw them to the traps as they are some what photo sensitive.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

We use apple cider vinegar and couple drops of Dawn in containers around the kitchen counters. We also pour boiling water down the sink traps twice a week to clear out any egg accumulations of the next hatch.

Wonder how big producers like
HJ Hienz deal with them?
"Just grind em in".
