![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/06/full-698-294309-img_4881.jpeg) This grove of Sierra redwoods ( Sequoiadendron giganteum)was planted by me and my dad in winter of 1971. An impressive stand now. Always 10-15 degrees cooler in there compared to other farm temperatures in the heat of summer.

I planted thousands of trees back in 73/74.Used to plant 800-1000 a day depending on terrain and how well they scarified the ground.Did it as a summer job in high school for a few weeks each year before my timber cruising summer job started up. Never went back to see how big they are now.For sure not cut yet-they only cut 80-100 year old spruce here. That bush I planted is no doubt some good lynx habitat now. The early 70s was a great time to be a young buck with a pocket full of spending money.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

That's about how I did as a tree planter on good level ground. The of the up and down mountain terrain with brush and downed limbs we were lucky to plant 400 in a day.

When I was a teen, I planted acorns every year. Hundreds a year all about the woods. Picked up the tradition from an old grape farmer I knew. He let me hunt and trap his land. I also worked on his farm and later ran it for him in my twenties. RIP Mr Restivo
Ive also planted apple, pear and peach all over my land now.
Use to plant pine whips as a teen also. Advertised at a local hardware store. Planted about six small 100 plant groves that summer vacation. Didn't make much money but still drive by two of those pieces of land that still have pine on them. Payment enough

I drove by a place awhile back where I planted trees when I was a kid. Holy crap those trees got huge after all these years. Jim
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

The kids and I planted 1000s of oaks and SPFs 35 years back. Quite a few remain and are getting big.
Just the right amount of whelm.
