After reading some other threads I figured I would add something as well. Here in trout country anything else is frankly forgotten about by fly fisherman. I love the diversity and “a mans gotta eat” too.

I took my old man out too (86). He caught a bunch of eyes on the standard 1/4 jug head with a twister tail. I was using a clouser tied with foxtail and a dash of bear hair on top. The walleyes loved em. Sorry about the bronzin photo but I get as much vitamin D as possible lol

Saw some carp rootin about so I took a few minutes and found a feeder and fed him a little micro crawfish fly I tie. It was a good fight. The best fight of the day was the carp my dad fouled in a tail. Said he hadnt caught a carp in 70 years. Makes ya think…..

If it wasn't for those trash fish, Lake Erie would be a waste land. I'll take them over trout any day.

Looking good. If you are catching "eyes" in Ohio thats a whole other fish. I did a double take on you standing outside of the boat... you might need to relook at the owners manual lol.

White bass is a "trash" fish here. I went on many spring fishing trips with my dad filling coolers up with them.

Great story!!! I agree with others I would take an eye over a trout any day. Yes they are fun to catch on a fly.

Give me a fish, I will eat for a day. Teach me to fish, I will eat for a lifetime

Hooking onto a carp is just like hooking onto a Bus bumper.

Enjoy your memories.

I dont think the walleyes are trash fish by any means. They are overlooked by many here. The carp were nice for the fact they actually fight a bit. Those walleye fight like dead sticks.

Made some fish cakes with walleye the other day and they were awesome.

OhioBoy, the rivers are skinny here even when they are up. Sometimes getting out is better to target some fish. The carp was one foot of the bank.

Great pics and story. By looking at your boat transom, I’m guessing the motor is prop driven. In our local river, you couldn’t get out of site of the boat ramp without jet drive.

I would much rather have a walleye over a trout.

It is a prop. That boat I built for my hometown river. It has a max HP of 15 so my hands are sort of tied. That said Im pretty adept at running skinny water with a prop. Where there is a will, there is a way…

There are people here that target large carp on fly rod in shallows of the Great Lakes just for the fight.

What beauty does a walleye bring to the dance...

Answer...none

I've never fly fished for carp. But our strip pits have a good population of them in the 30 inch and bigger range. One of these days I my give it a try

Here’s one from the Missouri River down stream of great falls

What they lack in looks,,,, they make in difficulty and strength

Cool fish!

Is this in your area DT?
