The automakers are trying hard to restrict backyard mechanics from fixing their own vehicles. They specifically angle towards restricting computer programs that can interface with the vehicles computer and provide diagnosis and such. As a kid raised to work on your own vehicles, the thought of it gets my dander up. John deere tried the same thing and if Im not mistaken, it took the supreme court to put them in their place. If legislation does pass, itll likely end up at SCOTUS or get settled through case law already established...

It's taking quite an expensive computer $5,000-10,000
To talk to the computers on most modern day cars. What backyard mechanic can afford that.
