Have a a guy a ride over to his boat earlier. Different company but where where there and where going back towards the boat he was getting on. Apparently he was a river guy who was riding over down here in the canal for a few days .
He get on, sat down and he's just a loud guy. Starts talking about our boat.
" O man y'all got a bigger one ...but it's still pretty tiny compared to mine"
" Dang only two fridges "
" No cotton lines"

Which it's not like bad to do that but also they way you do it can be counted as a lil rude especially if it's a different company or you don't know the crew . Crap talk is expected but there like a way to do it type deal lol

On and on . Me the deckhands and pilot are just kinda lookin at each other shrugging and trying to eat and watch a lil tv Well he asked about our tow . Told him we got two black oil heater barges .

Boy that started him up , started talking about how he builds and breaks 10 barges at the the smallest 20 on average and up to 30packs . And that's why he makes the big money !
Mind you...none of us have really said too much to the guy .

I just had to ask at this point how much was big money because I'm getting a lil irritated. He proudly says $260 a day . Follow by saying us tankerman probably make only half of that because all we do is push around two little barges and turn some valves instead of slinging rigging like real men.

For those who don't know a standard set of hard rigging is a five foot long 50-75 lbs verson of one of them screw ratchets you see trucked use with chains, a cable ring with a length of chain that's about 20-25lbs and either a 30-60' long cabel that can weigh between 50-100lbs depending if it's a small one or one of them gorilla wires we call em . And you using usually four sets per barge . And yeah you usually gotta walk this stuff out . Most chemical barges have winches installed but alot of the others have to have rigging. But yeah kinda sucks especially in the summer and if you don't have a lot do guys to help or the stuff already out there

Everyone in the galley is trying really hard not to laugh . Ole boy got a huffed and asked one of the deckhands how much he made . Deckhand told him he's about $275 a day as a advanced deckhand/ tankerman trainee . Ole boy looks like someone slapped him and started asking everyone how much they made and what they did. Deckhand pulled up our pay chart thing that showed him how much eevyin made by position... He read it got really quit got up and just went and sat outside for the rest of the ride .

Didn't say anything when we helped him off the boat either , think he was a lil upset

Wolfdog, How do you work? 10 to 14 days straight then 5 or 6 days off ? Any travel time pay between the boat and home? I was just wondering, a different type of life style.

Just moved to a new boat . Was working 20 on 10 off but now I do 21/21 but I'll bre riding over a few extra days because I get ride over pay and now the wife finally quit her job the extra money is nice lol.I always travel out the day before for the travel pay and I hate rushing and trying to drive it the morning lof . Less then 5 hours I'll get a rental over five hours I'll get a flight . Company pays for both . Not bad at all really .

Electricans need to know about a black wire, a white wire, and bare wire, and a red wire while knowing how to keep your ends clipped neat and how a wire nut works.

Not sure what you are makin wolfie but you are smart enough to be an electrican. Someone like you could take welding too. A welding electrician is a hand at a factory. Our factory is straight 40, time and a half after 40, sundays and holidays are double time.

FYI mathematically 4 hours of double time is a 20% raise every week. ((40 hour week. 10% of that is 4 hours. 4 hours of double time is 8 hours. 8 hours of 40 is 20%))

60 hour week ten year electrician. (43*40*52) + (64.5*16*52) + (86*4*52) = 89k + 53k + 17k = 159k. ((40 straight + 16 time and half + 4 double time))

There is always someone making more, better hours, better conditions. That guy just found out it was not him this time. Sounds like a younger guy with limited experience wanting to be somone.

Ohio boy by your figures with Doubletjme on Sundays and the extra OT are you advocating not having a full day off week after week? If so that sounds like fun. Talk about living to work instead of working to live. I think there's a guy on here right now that's questioning that to a point if it was worth it.

I supervise a shop of maintenance mechanics. Got one guy really is a good mechanic but spends all day telling everybody else how to do their jobs and sprinkling it with how good he is at his job compared to everyone else. I've talked talked to him about his abrasive behavior a few times. He has no idea what I'm talking about. Completely oblivious that he's obnoxious.

When I was on different boats filling in I would never say this is how we did it on the other boats. We hated to hear that from temps..go back there then. Your on our ship now . Now safety is to be considered. But the captain calls the shots, following orders keeps everyone safe
