Would satan knowingly do anything to glorify God or is it always a surprise to him when God does something good with his dirty deeds?

Would satan have offered GOD the world if he would have known the answer?

How many lies will people believe before they realize their own idiocy?

From 1 Corinthians chapter 2:
Quote
7 but we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory; 8 the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it they would not have crucified the Lord of glory;

'rulers of this age' presumably applies to political and religeous leaders of the day. But 2 Corintians 4:4 refers to satan as the 'god of this world'. I do wonder to what extent it applies to him too?

On a side note; it's interesting that many people incorrectly give Lucifer God-like qualities.
Lucifer is not; all-knowing, nor ominipresent.

I thought it was pretty well known that he knows only what he observes.

I think it's interesting that people think Lucifer is another name for Satan.

To answer your question, Hobbie I believe the answer to be no. The Bible describes Satan as a liar and enemy of God. Therefore, he wouldn't knowing glorify God. Satan goes all out to try and make humans not glorify God. The Bible also says that Satan keeps disguising himself as an angel of light. Meaning that he pretends to be good in order to fool people into following his teachings rather than God's.

Always a surprise. Satan can't outwit his Creator.

Satan is what he is, or his character, Lucifer is his name.
Sort of like "God", that is who He is, not His name. His name is Jehovah (or the various forms thereof).

Waggler, I'm familiar with God's personal name but Lucifer is not Satan's name. The Hebrew word that in some Bibles is translated “Lucifer” means shining one. The context shows that this term refers to the line of kings, of Babylon, which God would humiliate for its arrogance. The expression shining on was used to mock the Babylonian dynasty after it was overthrown.

My understanding after studying it a bit is they both are the same entity, satan primarily being the old Hebrew term, and Lucifer the more recent new testement term (or maybe I have this flipped around).
The older understanding of the nature of this fallen angel was a little different from one period to another, but the names/terms all apply to the same entity.

In modern terms maybe Satan took a look at Gods work and by his own ambitions was seeking even bigger rewards and started a hostile takeover and recruited a third of the residents to raid the place. Just as he was seeing a great return and was beginning to have to build bigger barns to hold his gains he caught his toe and stumbled and fell from Heaven taking his raiders with him. Perhaps he never counted the cost and his gains were lost and they were returned to the Creator.
I doubt any of his doings was purposely done to glorify God although that may have been the end result. Satan will get his notoriety from the bottomless pit and will hop out a 1000 years later only to hop into the fire !

Reminds me of a story I think came from Tennessee.

There was 2 little boys walking down a wooded path going fishing one day. All of a sudden they came upon a sink hole, they had been coming down that path all their lives and it had never been there before. They couldn't see the bottom of it and they kicked some gravel into it and couldn't hear it hit the bottom. They thought to themselves that it was a dangerous situation and it needed to be filled up before someone got hurt.

They began throwing trash, rocks and everything they could find into the hole. Then one found a railroad tie and together they dragged it to the hole and was able to upend it into the hole. It was about one second later an amazing thing happened, a white goat came running by and jumped right in that hole. While they were standing there looking into that hole, they heard an old man clearing his throat, and after he had their attention he asked if they had seen a white goat. They said as a matter of fact they had seen a white goat come running by and jumped in that hole. The old man replied that couldn't be his goat because he had his goat tied to a railroad tie with a long rope. The boys stood motionless not saying a word !

I don't think he knows his exact future. But, has a pretty good idea that for him it's not good.

It would seem that the creation of man and the pedestal God put man on was very upsetting to Satan. He hates man and seeks to destroy man. He once considered himself equal to his own creator. When he realized that was incorrect he gets back at God by turning man against God. That's probably the only way he can hurt God. Because of this he has to know that in the end he has no future.

The world was sliding away from God and Satan was winning. That's when God saw the hold Satan was having on mankind. He knew the world needed saving before it was too late. He sent his son, Jesus to save the world in a way no one, not even Satan expected.

Got a photo from a speeding camera in the mail. I immediately sent it back - way too expensive and really poor quality.
