I was doing the same thing with cortisone, but it was costing me $40 each time on my medicare supplement. The shots only seemed to help for a couple of months. A couple months later I was back for more shots. So, I decided to check out the VA where it wouldn't cost me anything. I was told there that cortisone will eventually erode the cartilage. They suggested a better option to try might be something called Euflexxa. It's a gel that won't erode the cartilage. You get one injection a week for 3 weeks. Then you are good to go for 6 months. If it works you can start a new series for another 6 months. They said some guys say it really works great. Some didn't. I'm in the first group, it was like a miracle. I've just started my second series about a month ago.

Check with your doctor. It's called Euflexxa. It sure was a better option for me.

Also called Synvisc, worked for me for 6 years , then went in for the rebuild.

Just the right amount of whelm.

So you guys with all the new body parts... When do you suggest getting them?

Like... I'm 48. Say I retire at 65. Are you guys replacing joints on medicare at age 70?

is there good advice in that if you are going to get new joints after you retire that it would be better to go through that say at 55/60, on medical leave, with good corporate insurance?

Say you get a new knew or shoulder... whats the going estimate for how long they last now? You don't want to have to have them done twice right?

Anyway, what would you say to do or do differently?

i.e. how does a guy get old, retire, and then be in condition to say hike the Appalachian Trail? Seems like you get too old and broke down to do the things you thought you might...

Good luck Cotton.

"So you guys with all the new body parts... When do you suggest getting them?"

When you can't tolerate the pain anymore, lol .Us old guys usually wait to long.... by then it's sit out on the porch, or hope it gives you a few more years....The replacements are good for a long time,.. body not so much. lol....If you want to hike the trail, I suggest get it done while you can...YMMV...
