I recently purchased three of the skunk specific live Traps, the ones that look like a tube. I bought these traps too specifically trap around urban areas during the season. Does anybody have any bait formulations or any commercial bait you would recommend to avoid cats / non-target. Thank you.

If you put grape jelly or cat food in them around here, the coons will make a play toy out of them tubes getting to it quick. Both put out quite a scent that they follow easily.

Buddy who put up a good number uses tainted beaver fleshing. Coon catch’s dropped off quite a bit.
I’ve got some of them little tube traps, still haven’t got a skunk in one. If I got a cage nearby, they always go to the cage first.
Different buddy got a cage by his shop year round. After the first spring skunk, he doesn’t use any bait or lure. They just go into the dark cave probably drawn to a bit of smell left after the first one caught. He keeps the cage tarped off except the front.

Cass river bait and lure has a fruit and berry paste bait that works good on skunks.

I myself like those tube traps, you do need a brick or something on either side to keep from rolling. If one rolls it over they can escape, but are not afraid to go back in from what I have found. I also have caught skunks that I was surprised could get in because of size as well as a few racoons. I feel the round hole is more inviting than square, I have no idea as to why. I use marshmallows a fair amount apples sometimes, they really are not to picky.

i’ve got video of a large Skunk back backing out of a 6 inch trap that I made. How I corrected the problem was I cut the trigger where it was only 2 inches hanging down from the top. If you trap in stocks in the northern states are in Canada. You could lose some because of that. A 7 to 8 inch trap tubular trap is better. The video came from CANADA.
skunk would go in and have the door came down. It would lift its tail and get out. The 2 inch trigger allows the animal to be in the trap 3 to 4 inches further to where it closes better.

Iam assuming why the round hole is more inviting its more natural looking then a square opening but I have no evidence just my opinion.
