I looked into it a bit more its not put on by 4h its an outside rodeo group. Sign ups closed last Friday but if there are spots they may be able to sign up maybe not depending on if there are any slots left. If he wants to he may be able. I spoke with one of the kids and his mom and they went on and on about different clinics available
how they work and how most things are about a 2 hour drive to get to.

To me its like high-school football dumb way for kids to get hurt for life. And my kid is the one that is the watch thid first to to try something one in the bunch.

I have no idea how rodeos typically work and initially was just going off what my 13 year old said whan he came to the van to ask me about it. The a little more from my wife when I was watching the stear and heifer show som friends kids were doing.

We will see if he changes his mind or if he can eve ride if he wants to tomorrow.

This is the first year they brought in a rodeo my wife said. Typically I only get a day or two off work for the fair.

That's a lot of bike...

So with that said....looks like a bull ride is a no - Brainer in your house.

Looking forward to the Video.

Yep I was not asked or inform about it. I came home from a week of work and it was in the yard along with a 125 Honda 2 stroke my now 16 year lod bought the same week.. Turd asked grandpaw to take him to go look at it and bring it home.

I thought it would eat his lunch but the kid could handel it well. Im sure ther were some wrecks I was not told about or down played. I dont fully buy a stick hoping up from the tire hit his helmet hard enough to Crack it all the way through and loose on the piece that covers his mouth like he said happened. But it broke he could figure out how to fix it and traded it for a 300ex 4 wheeler.

I would not encourage it .
I taught at a Jr high.
Always had a big show of my ranch kids at the monthly Ogden. Ut. Youth Rodeo .

The back of the chute was 10 ft. The best seats in the arena.

A student got ground off the bull, the bull started kicking, and mashing the kid.
My daughters hod holding my right leg I somehow managed to grap the kids vest with one hand and pull the kid out

I have 3 daughters, took their motorcycles horses and ATV to school, drove with valid licencing at 14, rock climbed skydived rode m
Skipped school to ride,,,,,,,,,,, motocross

I coached a few sports.
Had friends that were pro bull riders, boxers NFL ,,,,,,list goose on.

Two sports I would not let my sons do if I had boys

Downhill bike racing and bull riding
Let him ride a bronc
hopefully he gets kicked so he can have limp that hurts for a few months and wises up

More people are hurt driving to and from rodeos then riding. I work a lot of rodeos at one time and it is not that often someone get hurt bad. I was fighting bulls in High School.
4 May 1973 is the day the picture was taken. This was a Winston PRCA Rodeo in GT Falls MT. I graduated from high school 1 June 1975 [Linked Image]

By the time my boy was that age he was winning a few checks competing in the open jackpots against grown men. Of course he had been working toward that level of competition since he was about 5 years old.

There is nothing safe about it. Best you can do is to have great arena help (bull fighters, gate men, and a couple of cowboys on horseback who are fast with a rope when the wreck is on). The other thing I believe in is training. If you get thrown away from your hand, the underside of the hand holt easily holds your closed fingers against the bulls back and you are in for a lot of trouble.

Getting out of that fix is tough even if you have trained for it. If you haven't your probably going to meet some nurses.

Mark's not wrong but if a bull steps on you in the wrong place, bad things can happen. One of my worst injuries was when a practice bull jumped out of a spin at the buzzer, dropped him to the inside, and stepped on his chest. A rib punctured his lung.

FYI that bull would eat out of your hand but they all have to come down on 4 feet after each buck and if you're under one it goes poorly.

It's an opportunity of a lifetime. If it should develop into an obsession or career get a better insurance policy, lol.

I liked John Duttons quote...."You gotta admire the first man to ride a bull...but you gotta wonder about the second man.."

Worth the time and money in my opinion. Youngest son wanted to do the same. By the end of the second day he was riding mid stock. Sankey doesn’t use rank stock. From experience, it is a very quick ride with no experience. Experience with riding is helpful but it’s not the same.

Ya that boy doesn't need any more chick lure. Neither one of them do. Its been a problem actually. Both of them have had girls showing up unannounced out here at the farm. Now mind you we are 7 miles from town and none of them had a car a few walked A few got dropped off. Wife ran a car load off late one night when i was away for work the boys were having some male friends over and having a fire.
My youngest has a thing for girls I can see are a train wreck.. My 16 year old seems to have learned his lesson on that switched his intrest to hige value quality young lady. Hes intrested in very nice young lady from a large good family and very protective father. Im very happy to see the switch. The last one was trouble, and drama. I didnt think the talks about being wife material vs entertainment only took but at least one seems to have listened.

The youngest is improving some. The older rodeo kid bet him $20 he couldn't get a hot girls number at the fair and it cost him $20. He pointed out 2 more my son then went and got numbers from but the guy learned and wouldn't bet him after the first one. Where the improvement comes in is my son deleted the #'s right after since he has a girlfriend.

Most Young girls are very forward and behave like collage girls away from home for the first time. Not at 18 mid 20s but starting about 13. After both boys learned by finding out they got cheated on they both had a switch flip and were acting like total Chad's. I was hopeful it was just a phase and its looking like it was.

Now that pretty cool geting the kids started so early. And just thank about all the flack I have gotten here for letting my kids i started about 4 go hunting alone or take off with a gun at the farm to run traps at a 10 or so. Its not the age its the maturity and what each one was ready.

I would alway be worried about him on a bull but would feel better if he had at least a little training first. I absolutely dont expect him to stay on 3 seconds if he does get to ride. My main concern is not hiting the ground but geting stepped on after hiting the ground knocked the wind out of him or breaks a bone or two. But that just my no rodeo knowledge ignorant assement and thoughts on it.

Let him try, it could be his special talent!!

My son's good friend got into bull riding at that age. I was his hockey and baseball coach at the time and thought it was insane. However, 7 years later he is not broken and doing extremely well on the Canadia PBR circuit. It is not the big time like in the USA but he has done well enough to be invited to PBR events in your country. Last month he was in Texas at a big show. At the very least, it could give him the chance to visit new paces.

Look around should be a practice pen somewhere.

I think Chris Ledux said it best

I'd rather spend 10 seconds in the saddle then a life time sitting in the stands.
