I can notice the difference.

Our chickens free-range whenever possible, get fed table scraps year-round and dine on critter carcasses during trapping seasons. They will pick a fox carcass clean in no time at all.

Our egg yolks are thicker, have better color and actual flavor.

I won't eat regular store-bought eggs, you can have those tasteless, pale, watery things.

Only thing I usually use is a little salt.

Also if there is any question Crack the egg into a bowl before the pan or dish to be sure there is no chick in it. Sometimes with multiple people collecting eggs communication on a hen sitting is not relayed

Just had an omelet from free range eggs, couldn't tell the difference from the store, except for the yoke color.

I would pay double for quality eggs living in town.

there is a big difference in eggs depending on the age of the chicken, the older a hen gets, the waterey (if thats a word) the eggs get. I get double yolks from a breeder farmer here. all the hens are less tthan a year old, as they approach the end of the year cycle you can tell a difference.

The eggs from free range hens are night and day different from store bought eggs in taste and nutrition. An egg is a product of a hen's diet. If you keep hens caged or penned and feed them only the foods fed to commercial hens, their eggs will be like grocery store eggs. If your hens are pasture raised (by day) and can eat all kind of plant and insect food sources in addition to their regular food, their eggs will be so different from store bought that you could not overlook the difference. The yolks will be dark yellow to orange and the flavor will be rich. The nutritional analysis will be completely superior to store bought eggs.

I found some results of nutritional studies done on free range/pastured eggs from various farms as compared to grocery store eggs. This one might be readable. Compare the top two lines.

The differences they found in studies I've read about show similar results. The differences are major, not marginal.

Not sure why some people cannot taste the difference. I would guess that some people have to limit their hens to a small area without a lot of different food sources and their eggs are similar to store bought.

We don't need salt to taste the difference, but I like most foods even better with salt. We like morel mushrooms too!
