Manitoba just allowed a possession limit of Largemouth for the first time. I guess the population has grown on some lakes and ponds, so we can keep them now.

I’m thinking about keeping a few the next time I go out. I know lots of guys look at Bass as a sport fish and hate seeing people keep them. I get dirty looks when people see my stringer full of Smallmouth Bass.

You guys like eating Largemouth? Do they taste similar to Smallmouth?

the texture of the meat is a little larger grain than a small mouth.

but out of cold water no problem eating them.

As long as they're out of cold water, and not too big, they're good eating, maybe slightly mushier than what your would be used to.

There’s a reason most people throw them back. I’ve eaten a lot of fish ….largemouth wouldn’t crack the top 10. But if you enjoy them…… go ahead. Some people like liver some don’t

Yep. Nothing wrong with them.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Smallmouth bass taste better. I would vacation in Maine, we would catch and eat the largemouth from that lake. It was a cold water lake and the largemouth taste just fine. I live in MD and the largemouth from here are not that good at all. it has been explained to me as a muddy taste?

Yup! I fillet and skin them and then slice the fillets down to about Bluegill size. Then we fry them till crisp in the same breading we use on panfish. A bunch of potatoes fried, and a cooler or two of cold beers and we have a feast. I really don't care if some see Bass as some sort of trophy or used to earn money...they are just good food to me.

I follow the state regs, I figure they know what's good/bad for the game. Big fish eat little fish! Large mouths can clean out most of the smaller fish to the detriment of the system. They eat great!

If I see someone with a stringah of Bass...

I immediately go ovah to him...shake their hand ..

And give them a cold beer...and say thanks for taking the trash

Out of the lake.

That's not why. Tournaments and tournament fisherman made it taboo to eat them. They didn't want their prize money being taken from the lakes. Bass are a game fish like many others and have good white flaky meat. They are not my favorite, but the are still good.... Eat up people. Bass from lakes are probably a lot healthier for us to eat than a lot of the junk we buy at the store.
