Says it's faucci on steroids.....more deer are killed by cars than by cwd he says. Ya know, I agree with Ted. Carry on.

I suspect Ted is right about amount of deer killed.

However that really is not the point, which kills more deer.

The point is there is potentially a disease that kills or debilitates deer out there.

Should we just shrug it off and say its not killing that many deer so it don't matter.

Think most deer hunters would be PO'd if cwd starts killing more deer than cars and we have just ignored it all along?

Is there politics involved in the study of CWD? I don't know, wouldn't be surprised.

Best to gain knowledge about cwd rather than ignore is my point.

My primary concern is if it will be a future problem for people who eat infected meat. Blue tongue is the worst think I have seen hiting a population personally. And its pretty bad at least since I have nothing else to compare it to.

CWD has been around for years. Populations out west are getting to where they are less affected.

Problem I had with out department of conservation was for several years where ever it was found they would try to kill every deer they could. MDC employees, all year, day and night, tried to kill them all. Never worked, they never mentioned young bucks traveling miles away, and now they say that was a non-workable strategy and are suspending the practice. In a lot of their practices they could gain a lot by getting advice from outdoorsmen with years of experience versus someone with little real world experience but has ideas. Bobcats, otters, decrease in turkey, quail, and pheasant populations, 4 point antler rule, etc.

The Arkansas study info was just released this year. Dr. Kroll has probably read it by now. Im curious how this will change how folks with his whitetail knowledge look at CWD.

No need to keep your head under a rock. Read it for yourself. Google it. The synopsis will pop up and tell you all about it in a few paragraphs.

I've followed Dr Kroll for years. Saw him in person at a SE Deer Study Group meeting several years ago. I have his book, so I'm very familiar.

At least they stopped what wasn't working.

Keep in mind that a workable CWD response in the eastern half of the US is still unknown. Not the same as in the western US with thinner deer/elk populations.

Deer to deer contact is the fastest form of transmission. Potential to spread thru a 5 psm population is much less than a 50 psm population.

Nugent also thinks killing deer inside 350 acres of high fence is hunting.

For some it probably is. But most of us not so.

Deer farmers have played a very significant part in moving CWD around this Country.

A lot of unknowns with cwd. MO was going to require all deer farms to double fence. The deer farms had evidence that cwd was known to be in the state long before the MDC had acknowledged it and in areas that had no deer farms. MDC backed down.
