im slowly winning without traps so far but have decided to buy a couple 330 traps but have question , i do not want to harm the deer , are these ok for around deer population , not worried about mink or fishercats that would be a bonus , just do not want to harm a deer crossing the creek where they keep trying to rebuild

In all my years of setting 330’s in water I’ve never caught a deer.

thanks for the quick reply , the areas i will be setting are past dams that i have won the war , and they still try to start a new dam , so shallow and the winter melt has washed the silt that collected from being damed down stream , sshallow and not a mushy creek bed , and small creek once again

the creek is a lazy windy creek that naturally steps every so often and thats where they like to build and that also where the deer cross , fresh deer print daily , the deer on my place do not even run when they see me and the dogs ,they watch but do not take off , they eat the corn i throw out for the ducks ,geese and chickens year round

i was walking the dogs tonight in the back field and they started at a new dam again , the large dam about 300 foot across is on the other side of the property line and they do not allow me to control them there , so far the dogs and rifle i bag several a year

I wouldn't worry about it. I have never heard of it happening. I would imagine, with most 330s, they'd probably just pull out if it did. I WOULD worry about your dogs. Make sure you keep them penned up or on a leash.

Your dogs are killing them? Be sure to check your state regulations. Here 330's need to be submerged at least half way. If your water is shallow you may not have enough to make legal sets. Follow the laws, ALWAYS.

I have nothing clever to put here.

If you've never handled a 330...they pose more of a risk to you than they do to the deer.

330's I wouldn't worry about either but snares would be a different story.

Is it Illegal for a Dog to Kill a Beaver in West Virginia?
In West Virginia, it is not illegal for a dog to kill a beaver — the state’s laws do not prohibit dogs from killing wildlife. The relevant statutes, such as W. Va. Code §19‑20‑12, protect companion animals from unlawful killing, but they do not restrict dogs from hunting or killing other animals West Virginia Code.

my dogs are party animals at night , no telling what present they will leave on the porch for me , they que in on the birds or when we had fainting goats and they are down there , if we are walking and i see a fox i say "big sucker" and they are after it , unfortunately a ground hog pops up every now and again , the squirrels and rabbits are too fast so they are more like "one of these days Alice , one of these days"

the fox that ran rough shot through my birds this year is a mother and her kit , last year the dogs got both kits so i think its the same female , i switched from carrying an AR15 to a Mossberg 20 ga security with #1 buck 3 in mags and ghost ring sights , but the beaver do all their work by moonlight and when i do sit out late waiting for them i just get chewed up by mosquitos and the dogs cant stay quiet and are at my hip 24/7 except when i leave for work ,so this is why i have been thinking about starting with one trap and if it proves fruitful i would invest in a couple more

i know its a waste but i am not interested in the whole pelt/skinning part of it , too much work , too much time , and too much money to get set up and then the buyers always nit pic to beat the price down so not enough patience ,i use to trap Muskrat as a boy back in the 70's which was fine as a boy , but i install cabinets and im two years from retirement , and work a small farm after work on top of that so for no more money that it would produce it probably would never pay for the initial investment

i would like to dry out the back corner of the field and get in there with a skid steer and clean that mess up and if i am successful with traps i could trap them at the property line before they come down stream through the heart of my acreage causing a mess , its like they never stop trying they are never satisfied

that corner of the property is where the creek comes through two mountains , the people that own that property (two families on either side of the creek) have their homes up high because it creates a flood plane through there so the beaver do not bother them , by the time the creek reaches through my place it is just a angry creek that runs through a low area when the melt off happens , so they think the beaver "are cute" and will not allow population control on their property , i even asked them to come and see the destruction they are causing on my property , but they are transplants from another state and simply do not care

IMHO get a 330 setter before touching one and keep it within reach when setting them.

https://mntrapline.com/products/rts...=1&_psq=setters&_ss=e&_v=1.0

I like the RTS best but I also have the lever type in the truck when trapping with the 330s.
