I try to make cleanup easy for the waitress. Stack plates. Silverware neatly on plates. I'll wipe up my ketchup splills and leave the table mostly clean. I just try to not be a jerk.

When I'm done, the table is probably 80% clean. But I don't lose sleep over the last 20%

however the last several times I have eaten out there wasn't even a plate left on the table when we got up to leave just glasses. as we finished each plate the server took it off the table. That could be because about the only time I eat in a restaurant any more is to meet people and talk. Saturday I met my MKE kids near Oconomowoc. I also try and avoid crowded restaurants because I want the space and time to talk. if they have people waiting for a table we would move.

counter service restaurant with a trash can clean it off everything short of wiping it down with the soapy rag that isn't there.

I was at Oakland Gyros last month while I was helping my MKE kids move apartments the south side and Cudahy have some huge masques now there was a group of arab men they had pushed several tables together so the 8 of them could sit at one table.
They left shortly after we got there about 10pm , they had all 4 tables covered in plates napkins everything left lay , they were maybe 10 feet from the trash can.
They appeared to have been out golfing from their golf attire. left in 4 cars no man rode in the back seat.

there was such a mess the employee that came out of the kitchen to clean it up brought a trash can he probably spent 15 minutes cleaning and resetting the tables and chairs , there was enough of a mess he moved the tables and swept also before putting all the tables and chairs back in their spot.

they were the only people I have ever seen leave such a mess in there every other customer it seems was raised right.

I think it is that they culturally believe that cleaning is women's work and beneath them. well it was a man who came and cleaned up that mess.

Pete...don't tell me you vacuum and wash the sheets ..before your leave the Hotel ...

I don't leave it a mess when I leave. I'm civilized.

no but if it is a place with a kitchen I make sure all the dishes are washed or at least in the dish washer and running as I leave.

I toss all the used towels on the bathroom floor in a pile.

all the trash in the cans or bagged next to the can.

pull apart the bed sheets because I am making sure no articles of clothing like a sock are getting left behind and leave them in a pile in the middle of the bed.

then I get out my pocket flashlight and check under all the beds behind anything to make sure nothing is left behind , I never put anything in drawers but I check them all any way.

then I turn in the key.

Nessy I know I am Mayberry , I had a friend who was the chief of police tell me , "Pete if everyone was you we wouldn't even need laws."

It just took me almost 2 hours to buy a new used lawn mower. deal was done in 5 minutes then we stood around talking and catching up after that technically the shop was even closed by then but he nor I had anywhere to be. guns were most definitely covered.

At most restaurants we are at the wait staff has them removed before we are done with our coffee, but we do stack up things as much as we can. When I go to the coffee shop there is a place to return all of our dishware and I do.

Having empty plates on the table is the same as the server leaving an empty drink sit there and not refilling it. There aren't supposed to be empty dishes for you to clean up. Its called pre bussing. But yeah when they don't do it, yes I do it for them, and its a stack of dishes and silverware on the table that aren't supposed to be there in the first place.

We usually get a stack of dishes when we all box our food up at the same time without them having a chance to pre bus. The ones on the ball stand there and take the plate from you and don't let you stack it on the table. Nice restaurants box it up for you in the back. Either way there aren't supposed to be dirty dishes just sitting on your table.
