I like summer but I despise beaver trapping in the summer.

Ticks, skeeters, deer flies, and the humidity. Then if you have a smart one or a shy one the job drags out. Have to catch them all. Sometimes get them all the first night and other times there is always one smarty. It's usually a female because they aren't as aggressive as the males.

Just finished my fourth job of the summer today. The lady asked what I would charge her to remove 2 beaver that had taken over her pond. I told her 2 million. She laughed!!!! Said she couldn't afford that much. I lowered the price and she asked when I could do the job. Should have been a 2 day job but ended up being four. Set one day and pull the next if the beaver cooperate. This job had a shy one. She probably saw her mate get whacked and holed up. She finally got caught in the same castor mound set as her mate. Used a submerged 660 with the trigger on the bottom. I really like that trap because it isn't as constricting. I believe the extra room helps some for shy or educated beaver. I'm sure the vintage Backbreaker helped a lot too.

I also dont much care for beaver trapping in the summer,but the money is good.I hate tossing big beaver with crappy summer pelts when I think how nice they would be come winter fur trapping.

Mosquitos and horse flys were wicked,blackflies died down a bit from a couple weeks ago.
I forgot my jacket so with just the t shirt I had to set fast.Made 3 deadly sets in record time,lol.
Only a pair of beaver there since it gets hit each year.

Yup! Beaver trapping during the summer flat out sucks!

Separates the boys from the men that’s for sure! Some try it to make an easy buck and wind up quiting trapping altogether! You have to learn to love it and embrace the heat and bugs…….lol

Yep, all that has been mentioned can make a trapper kind of grumpy especially when a wise one shows up.
You know it's going to be rough when you pull up to the job and the 'squitoes and biting flies are banging off the truck window.

It sucks!!! I just don't, unless I need to on my place and need to stop the destruction.

It just sounds miserable. Summer is nothing but bugs and sweat. Bring on fall and winter

Not to mention giant wasp nests in a lot of the bushes standing in water, 100 degree temps, and clouds of mosquitoes - but dont have to worry about falling through the ice

My price would be much much higher if I had to contend with gators possibly hiding under the lily pads. I'm not afraid of snakes but they would add to the cost also.

Just love the thick duck weed in summer....can't see what's under there...gator, snake, water depth, logs, etc. Makes for unpleasant (and calculated) wading....



And it's always exciting when you see where something as big or bigger than you has made a trail thru the duckweed.....

What used to make me laugh is getting a permit from a CO who would remind me that I was not allowed to keep any part of these summer-caught beaver.
