Curious if anyone has ever read through any studies about spanking kids. I keep seeing people citing studies about how spanking kids leads to worse life outcomes vs other punishment forms, pretty easy to observe the kids that don't get spanked are usually little hellions and suck to be around.
Anyone have insight?
This post was spurred on by my nephew who hit my daughter then my mom when she tried to correct him, my mom sent him to her room for a timeout and he broke a Nativity she's had since she was a kid. My wife was there and spanked my nephew despite his mother (my sister) not wanting him spanked (he needs it).

A three y/o doesn't know what "you can get run over" means. They learn quick though that playing in the street will get them a spanking.

P.S. You can find a "study" to support almost any foolish notion you can conceive of.

P.S. You can find a "study" to support almost any foolish notion you can conceive of. I suspect I found the flaw in these studies but I'm not sure and was hoping someone else could provide insight. Studies cited often say that children from homes that include spanking as a punishment become more violent. The flaw is that Black folks spank at the highest rates, when you compare outcomes you would need to adjust for demographics as Blacks commit a hugely disproportionate amount of violent crime.

Strange as reports say very few fathers live with their offspring. And that's not just one race .

I got dad's belt exactly once. Was enough of a lesson for me. Took my brother a few times.

Spare the rod, spoil the child. Theres a huge difference between spanking and abuse.... I got beat with the buckle end, horse riders crop, thrown across the room, just to name a few, One day I had enough, I was about 16
I wish my dad had 'talked to me' Still, I guess I turned out okay. . . well, maybe

Sometimes when I get bored, I spank the crap out of my kids just for fun

In the old days , parents would take their child's hand and stick it in the fire, or on the kettle cooking over the fire. It taught them that fire is dangerous. Remember there wasn't a doctor around the corner back then. A child dumping boiling food on them selves was a death sentence . How many times have you seen, a child told not to do something, and they just have to try it? You show them, and they learn, same with teaching anyone, showing and having them do what you say, is how they learn. Only ever needed to spank my kids a couple times when they were little, then just telling them no, was enough.
Think about the saying " curiosity killed the cat." Truer words were never written. Kids need guidance, and discipline to learn how to get through life without major problems, or attitudes.
