Hello everyone, this is my first post. Thanks for letting me join. My question is I just bought 17 northwoods 1.75 square jaws in pretty decent shape and was wondering if they make good mink traps? And bobcat? I’m gonna target the two this season and could use a few more traps. I got a good deal 75 and a tanned beaver fur for 17-nw 1.75 1 -nw#1 and a nw #2 a victor squarejaw #2 a hertz #2 a victor #1.5 and 2 330 2- 220 and a half dozen 110s, 18 snares and a half dozen wire stretchers.

They are great traps for both species. All those foot holds will be good for mink! And Welcome!

Welcome, I Started using Northwoods traps when they first came out. Very good well built trap. I still have them, plus a few more. That size will work for anything you are chasing in that part of the country.

Thanks everyone. The more I look at em the more I like em. Got them soaking in a vinegar bath now and looking into some modifications for them. I may put one up after I get them cleaned up to collect.

After that vinegar bath, you might think about putting new springs on them…..

I’m thinking about putting a bigger pan on. What would you recommend for that?

I don’t recommend ever vinegar bathing to begin with as it thins metal and weakens springs, and keep the stock pan. Not sure why you would want to change that.

We have something in common grin

After removing from acid I'd rinse, swish in
baking soda water, and rinse some more.

Swivels are good.

If springs are strong, I'd keep em on there.

My opinion on these fine traps....I'd go with the smaller #1 1/2 music wire springs....the bigger #2s will at times contort the base.

Logwood crystals do a fine job of cleaning things up and blueing metal, I say that because logwood isn’t really a dye…..but the end result appears to be.

I can’t overstress the importance of speaking enigmatically…

Thanks again. I took them out of the rinse and gave them a bath in baking soda. I guess I was thinking a bigger pan might give me alittle but if an advantage on the mink. The springs seem hot. Overall they were in really good shape. I’ll definitely be adding a swivel maybe 2. And possibly a base plate. Yall have been helpful and I appreciate it. I found two that was a different style. They had north woods in a circular design. Would these be older or newer

I believe the round pan ones are newer...might want to check the pans out as they made a #1 1/2 that was pretty close to the same jaw spread to the 1 3/4...good traps!

I love the 1.75 NW traps.

Stout and well built.
