Here we go again. Air quality alerts for the next couple of days due to wildfires in Canada and Minnesota. I can smell the smoke now. Hard to breathe if you have asthma or heart issues. It does result in some gorgeous red sunsets.

It's supposed to get smokey here this afternoon.

Up until I retired from fire work a couple of years ago, I referred to that as the "sweet smell of overtime!" If wildland fire smoke were really as bad for you as the tv says, I would have keeled over MANY years ago!


Relax, the wind will switch after a bit.

Have you had a good north wind? I was in Snow Lake the last few nights visiting with your fellow Americans in the evening and it got Smokey a couple days ago, we had a good west wind. That smoke was from Saskatchewan border. It’s not too bad in Manitoba wildfire wise this summer.
Looks like Ontario has a good hot spot above you.
This map from NASA is super handy if you know how to select the different satellites & sensors. Not all the spots are fires if you look at the data.

Yep. Wind is straight out of the north.

It triggers my asthma so yes it is a real problem. SIL had to retire from wildland firefighting due to breathing issues after she fought them in Yellowstone.
But glad you had no issues and I thank you for doing your job fighting fires.

The weather liars here are going on and on about the "possible" smoke problem, we almost never get any this far south, or maybe the sky will be a little yellow, can't smell it either...but...they highly recommend staying indoors!, lol

Same with the "dangerous" heat....it might hit 90 today....apparently what's dangerous here is just another Friday down south....

Ohio is getting the "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" warnings. The sky here is mostly cloudless, but hazy gray from the Canadians' smoke. The smell of smoke is very strong. The two highest points in Ohio, 1549 feet, are nearby. The front of my property going out is flat, from the glaciers. The back of my property dips down and then climbs up to the Bellfountaine Ridge, a tall glacier moraine. Smoke from the North gets stuck here by the rise in elevation.

It’s crazy thick around here…visibility is down to less than 1/2 mile. Tomorrow is supposed to be worse.

I was out on Lake MI last night between MKE and Port Washington. Worse than fog. Woke up this morning sneezing that crap out

yesterday it felt like a sauna , today it smells like one. it is thick.

West Central Minnesota- Was thick this morning, under one mile visibility. Has cleared somewhat now as wind has switched to Southwest.

Really bad here today, had to close all windows in my home. Where are all of the climate change activists , they should be protesting and calling for Canada to stop releasing all of this carbon ? LOL

I guess a couple seeds got caught in the stems.

It's pretty miserable outside here in MI. Bizarre looking.

~1/2 mile visibility and the air smells like a blazing hot cedar sauna. The sun looks like something from Star Wars.

News said Michigan had the worst air quality anywhere in the world the last 2 days. Something like the air is equal to smoking a cigarette every hour you are outside.

Supposed to blow out tomorrow at some point.
