Go for it. My mom found a card offer in the mail 0%interest for 48 months on your first month's purchase (something like that anyways). My parents put $25,000 on it of mortgage debt and shredded the card, paid it off before interest due.

Good deal IF you are spending the required 500 anyway BUT you WILL get a 1099 for it as taxable income end of year so you will probably owe some tax on it depending on your bracket.

I have never gotten a 1099 for cash back. Am I going to do time now for income tax evasion?

CC companies are counting on most people to charge...charge...charge....and pay just the minimum payment.

Rare are those that pay it off monthly.

Same with those "no interest/same as cash" purchases. Pay it off before time limit and no interest on the money.

Don't pay it off by the time limit and they add all interest back to what you owe from day one.

Can your credit take the hit for opening a new card ... Opening new account, bad; increased total amount of credit, good; having to increase amount of debt by $500, bad depending on the total limit on the card, tax on the offer reduces value of the offer. Other advantages for the card ... 0 percent interest over time?

I did that once. Got $500 and paid it off the required amount every month, so I didn't accrue any interest. Once I made the minimum charges, I cut up the card. Credit rating was 832 at the time and only dropped a few points. It was free money for the taking. I never got a 1099 for the $500.

1099 threshold is $600 if I remember correctly. Anything less is not required.
