Multi-filament netting is a lot easier on your fingers than mono in my experience

Buy your own top line ( I like hollow braid ), floats, leadcore ( for bottom line ) and some twine. Maybe a fid and a couple net needles and hang them yourself. You’ll like it , the way you like to tinker. Most of what I hang is on the half, meaning your finished net is half the stretched specified length. I use nets for bunker ( menhaden ), striped bass, spot, bluefish, trout. Salt water

Wolfdog, what Jomibru means when he say "on the half" we call "hanging it even". Measure the stretched length of one and a half meshes, say it come to 8 inches. Then you would hang three meshes on an 8 inch spacing. Where I fish it is common to hang the leadline "out" a little maybe 8.25 inches. This causes the leadline to be a little more slack, it hangs better, and is a little more fishy.

I also gill net in Delaware Bay, White Perch, and Menhaden. Use #69 or #104 3 1/4 stretched mesh. I hang a little over half, 5 mesh between 7 inch ties. Float line and lead line are hollow braids. Small 2 inch float every 10 ties keeps net just under surface to prevent filling up with floating grass, 2 oz pencil weight every other tie on lead line to keep net from rolling in current .

Memphis has supplies. I use a local guy, Buddy Carson for bundles of webbing. LFS in Bellingham WA has everything you could imagine and if they don’t they’ll order it. I get custom sizes from them.

In a nutshell, fine mesh fishes great, but won’t last as long as the heavier webbing. It’s best in colder water, stays limber better.

Heavier webbing is stronger and will last longer. It’s easier to shake fish out of. But - it won’t catch as well as the fine stuff.

Gotta find the sweet spot for what you’re after. I find myself favoring the heavier side of the scale, so I can shake fish out and not worry so much about popping meshes. And I want my nets to last a few years. Tip, use good twine. A good tarred or bonded one, and tie an extra knot on each tie. It’ll make the nets last longer.

Yeppers ! I think I tired hanging on 1/3 a 1/2 and between 1/2 and 3/4 . Never seemed to get anything great with any other then but 1/3 definitely don't seem to work . Saw a lot do fish just bump off of it .
Still never got the how and why of the spacing. Think I just did 12" ties .. forgot how many meshes on each tie

I got mixed feelings. One hand blended is sooo much nicer on the hands when tying webbing from scratch.... But I had a decent amount of slipped knots over time.

Good tarred isnt as bad but still a lil rough on the nads and takes a lil more effort to tie..but after a day or two in the heat that crap is LOCKED IN
