Used to get some dove hunting, not bad but dang tough, we'd cut breast of dove and pigeon and toss them in marinara to simmer all day.
Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure

I never have but after shooting a big mess of them at a salebarn and old cattleman chewed my backside for being wasteful. He insisted they were every bit as good as pheasant and quail.

I have eaten more pigeons than dove. They were country pigeons and the few doves we have usually leave about the time season opens Sept. 1

In Grade 9 a friend of mine came to school with pigeon sandwiches for lunch. Grossed me right out!
He insisted they tasted like roast beef.
The next day, pigeon sandwiches again! C’mon!
I tried a bite and son of a gun it does taste like roast beef! Good, but freaked me out.
Never tried it again.
Cold as ice!

My dad raised them to eat when he was a kid. I have never tried them. I should pop a few at the farm and try them out.
We've got a homing pigeon guy here at work that gets all bent out of shape any time you mention shooting pigeons.

I have eaten bushels of them, but it's been years since I last had any. There was a dairy farm across the road from where I grew up. I whacked them often.....even going to the work at times of using decoys in the pastures and fields (homemade decoys, as well as propped up dead ones shot early in the outing). My mother cooked them in various ways. As for them being disgusting and unclean......ever eat chicken??!!!!!!

Just a dove with bigger breast. Wrap in bacon and grill. Here is a mix from a king pigeon my daughter got from Keith c and a wild one young one we caught on some clips on the same trip. The female wouldn't get along with the king pigeon male and took to the wild one. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2026/07/full-53884-297567-2854.jpg)
