When do you fill up ?

I go to the grocery store weekly so I pull into the gas station owned by the Grocery store and fill up , then go get my groceries and beer.

in the event I am traveling and I hit 1/2 tank I am looking for a good place to fill up I don't need the first one I want a good one.

mind you when my truck is full and I am not pulling a trailer I have about 550 miles of range.

are you a 1/2 is half empty , 1/4 is empty , E is empty or the little dash display says I can go 15 more miles till empty kind of person.

or some other option.

I am of the mindset that when you pull in the driveway at night there better be enough gas to make it to work and home again or go to the station before coming home.

time will always be in sort supply when you need it is my approach , gas up early and often.

Some where between half and quarter I will fill up. Usually in the morning on my way to work. Almost always the same station.

Never below a 1/4. Fuel pumps use the gas in the tank for cooling. When run real low, the pump gets very hot. If you fill the tank then, the cold gas from underground can damage the pump.
Almost every fuel pump I replaced on Chevy trucks was that scenario. Always a full tank.

I start looking at 1/4 tank. 250000 miles on the original fuel pump.

Generally around 1/4, I make a trip to the rez for truck and boat gas , and that much makes it worth the trip, usually 30 cents or more savings per gallon....

If we have a hurricane that looks like it's coming for a visit, I top off vehicles and fill the cans....stations around here don't have generators to pump if electric is out,

Gasoline.

A logbook of 47 work pickups showed me.

Buying fuel from newer tanks/pumps,
and,
guys that ran a lot of fuel.
Got better milage and less fuel system trouble.

Guys (the bosses trucks) that never ran below 1/2 tank,
and/or,
bought fuel from old tanks,
had more problems and poorer milage.

Gasoline goes bad.
I've worked on enough vechiles that
I refuse to argue with those that think
that half tank is somehow ok if added to.

If this cannot be collaborated on googtoob.
I don't care lol.

Usually fill up on the way to a job in the AM and get diesel fuel for equipment. Never get below 1/2 tank and use same station that has nonethanol fuel.

also a scout

you always need 100 miles minimum in every tank all the time

that way if you need the ER at 02:00 you don't need to stop for gas on the way because you pulled in the drive as the empty light came on.
running late for work , no need to stop to get gas

Usually when between 1/4 & 1/2 when possible especially now diesel is over 6.00 per gal.

Normally at a 1/4 tank. I have a few 1000 gallon tanks at the house though so I just fill up when it’s convenient

I almost always let it get below quarter tank. I track my MPG on my work trucks and it is more accurate that way.

Many "in the tank" fuel pumps are cooled by the fuel in the tank. Constantly running the fuel too low can result in a new fuel pump needed.

Drive it like a man, and I bet you can get that to sub 10mpg.

Buddy in college blew my mind with that mindset.

His argument was why drive around town with all that extra weight in the truck and gas getting old.

Unless he was heading out on a road trip he'd only keep it 1/4 full all the time.
