I was younger than that , but it was the farmer I worked for that had me driving a one ton on the road!
It was fun for me.

….. right as I took this pic … she looked at the camera and directly left roadbed … had to grab the wheel to keep from hitting big pines

…. And she’s only got one more year before being turned loose

… guess it was a good lesson on not getting distracted while behind the wheel lol

We learned to drive, long before it was legal.

Taught both my kids to drive around the place and in a vehicle with 3 pedals

I dont think I knew he had a daughter. lol. Mine just came home with her headlight practically hanging out and didn't have any idea about what had happened... good times.

I learned like Savell's young'uns, but my boys initially learned about vehicle control on go-carts and ATVs. Trucks, cars, and public road etiquette was easy after that.

I put mine on a 50 acre parking lot at a county barrier beach that's closed in the winter, all the room you could want, nothing to hit, striped parking spots if you wanted to practice that...No exhilarating road traffic to contend with, lol

Grew up on a farm as did most of the local kids....We were driving all kinds of equip by 12-13 yrs old.

Most vehicles were manual transmission, and was recently taken back by a young man at the 4 wheel drive shop who couldn't drive my truck/ w stick into the service bay.

Times sure are different now.

My earliest memory of driving was driving a tractor pulling a low boy for my dad and brothers to buck bales of hay in. I don't know what age I was but I had to hang from the steering wheel to hit the clutch and brake to stop. I taught my kids to drive in a pickup with a stick. Good on you KIdd teaching your kids to drive that way. Much better than letting drivers ed instructors do it.

Exactly. I was driving split axle 2 ton trucks hauling grain and goosenecks hauling livestock on the road by 13. Times are different and there arent as many stick shifts around. My son is fluentvin tractor clutch but i wouldntvput him on the highway in a vehicle with stick lol.
