Just wondering if any of you use these hand held grills while you are in the bac country. They work great for fish or any wild game while fishing or hunting. Just got mine back out will be using it this fall in the back country.

Ive got one that's rectangular. Probably 8" x 10". We took 15 teens from our church tent camping last week. They went fishing one afternoon. I told them to bring back anything worth eating. We used one of these over charcoal and had fish for dinner one night. Kids did all the cleaning of fish and cooking.

That is awesome. They really work well easy to pack.

I have 3 of those grilling baskets, all of which are square or rectangular. One of them is huge. They work good at keeping small things, like shrimp, from falling in the fire. It's nice to be able to turn everything at once. You need to make sure the coals are evenly spread, when using the full larger one, so that everything cooks the right amount, at the same time.

Like some others mentioned,I have a couple of the older rectangular ones.Adjustable for the thickness of the meat.Made of Stainless steel.Probly had them for 30 years or more.They work great.

I have one I do steaks in the wood stove in. I get tired of holding it and prop it in place.

We lay out a bed of charcoal, spread it evenly. Then use rocks to support the corners of the grill basket over the coals. Add or remove coals to adjust your heat. We cook a lot of camping meals over a bed of charcoal. I made a steel table for our "charcoal table".

It depends what your definition of backcountry is. I always thought of it is the country you can’t just drive too. That said I wouldn’t hike very far with that particular thing. The backcountry I hunt requires some hiking and is ripe with all the bears. I wouldn’t have a fish cover grill anywhere near me or my camp.

If I am cooking meat or fish I do it away from camp with sticks and burn the sticks I’ve cooked them with, and you can carry something else

Depends on how back country one is going! Often summer has fire restrictions.. While in scouts the boys backed in an original camp chef, a dutch oven and a 20 quart pot and bottle propane. The scouts also lashed their own grills for fish and carves their own eating utinsild
