Found a picture of my dad and I with my first beaver. I had just turned 13.
I caught him in a blind otter set with an MB 650. I had no idea what I was doing, but I lucked out.
And I know it looks like I wet my pants, but I was pretty much potty trained by that age.

Good thing you mentioned that because I was just about to comment on how excited you must have been!

Nope, his name is Terry. I broke 6' tall towards the end of fifth grade, so "Big Sam" has always been what they called me.

LOL Dave, about 5 PM by the looks of it.

Just long enough to get me started. When we got to chasing water critters, he had never set a bodygrip, so I had to learn a lot on my own. The only trap he ever used for beaver was the old 44 Blake and Lamb, so he didn't know what to buy for a modern trap. He got me a dozen 650s and a half dozen BMI 330s. Took awhile but I figured it out.

He still occasionally jumps in the pickup to check traps with me. My kids always make sure we stop and show off what they catch.

I bet he enjoys the kids catching critters.

My ol man was not a trapper ..hunted squirrels and rabbits when he was a kid
