A great article worth reading. Thanks for posting it.
A thank you for everyone who has received the purple heart for their willingness to go above and beyond for their fellow soldiers and the freedom we live in, isnt enough, but thank you.

My dad served in Vietnam and had high respect for the helicopter pilots and their crew. Said they put themselves in some pretty dangerous situations to get the guys on the ground out of some pretty bad spots.

My paternal grandfather left medical school at St. Francis Loyola, where he was studying to be a surgeon, to be a medic in the Philippines during WWII. He was shot through the hand, while carrying a wounded soldier on a gurney, by the Japanese. He soon after contracted malaria. The hand injury, plus the malaria permanently ended his aspirations to be a surgeon.

My maternal grandfather lied about his age and enlisted at 16. He was awarded a Silver Star for fighting in Germany.

Last Christmas I gave mine to our youngest grandson along with an American flag that was flown over the White House over 40 years ago. Our other grandson received my Bronze star.

Have a German Wound Badge.
Perspectives have changed over decades.

Dad was hospitalized three times and received one.
Said he was happy to come home.
