Has anyone ate rattlesnake and if so how did you make it?

In reptiles, I have eaten rattlesnake, Burmese python, alligator, common snapping turtle and iguana. My youngest brother broiled the rattlesnake. It came out good and tender.

When he cooked the python, it came out like chewing gum. It tasted good, but you couldn't chew it apart. You had to cut a small piece, chew it for a while and then swallow it whole.

I took the “back straps” and cooked in a bit of butter a few times when I lived on the east side of MT. Good enough but an average snake yielded 2 pencil sized strips a couple feet long. Lot of effort for not much.

I don't know about other reptiles, but rattlesnake, I like it best when cooked like swiss steak, with a plethora of gravy. Just don't see it at the store.

Same with me. It was ok, but there’s better things to than snakes.

Make that three.

Closest to compare it to would be alligator but not as meaty or tender.

Brought a couple back from Texas. Cleaned and cut into 6" pieces. Flowered, seasoned, browned, put in Dutch oven covered w/onion. celery, carrots and a little chicken broth. Steamed for an hour. Very good. Like young squirrel! Do the same with snapping Turtle but steam for 3 hours or pressure cook.

It’s great! Had it fried in butter and also had it baked inside quail as the stuffing.

Had it at the NTA in Hutchinson KS at the Trapperman feed, had been brought up by ole Bulletbox, had been deep fried and by golly it did taste j sut like chicken. Like gator, its like fishy chicken.

Only kind of snake I've eaten was some kind of water snake on a camping trip. It was okay I guess but we were probably pretty hungry to have cooked the thing to start with.

We killed a black timber rattler at Camp a while back, a nice 52 incher.

We filleted it and fried it up in butter. I thought it was pretty good.

Eh...wot?

Eat Diamond Back rattlers down in South Texas, it was good only way we did it was coil them up put salt pepper and butter on the while smoked over mesquite wood on the smoker. Dipped it
In a home made chipotle sauce that my southern help made us.

Growing up in Pa I have eaten Timber Rattlesnakes. They were all deep fried and I thought they were pretty tasty.

I've eaten rattler a few times and a huge bull snake. Bull snake was cut into about 10" sections and placed on a gas grill. The sections curled into C-shaped pieces and were tougher than wang-leather.
Had rattler grilled and deep-fried. Tough and little flavor other than the batter flavor.
